Anymore updates out there on the rumours of Nine using the Olympics to launch a news channel this year?
Was this just more wishful MS thinking as opposed to a more industry sourced rumour? (as they are two quite different things!).
There’s been a few sources.
- There is a news channel launching for Olympics News and Media Week asked Mike S whether it would turn into a 24/7 Nine news channel afterwards and he said there was nothing to announce now (this was back in Aug 2023)
And
- Both Rob McKnight and Molk have alluded to a commercial news channel in the works.
Dead in the water now the head of news and a current affairs has departed the network.
New guy not interested?
Also running out of broadcast spectrum with another HD channel coming on line.
I would have presumed that they might utilize the Olympics as a sort of ‘test case’ to evaluate whether the format adopted for the Olympic News channel would be appropriate for a broader news product before making any subsequent announcements.
My understanding is that the Olympics news channel is just an IOC feed and the host broadcasters have no contribution to it.
Exactly. Seven had presumably the same feed available to stream when it had the games.
Nine getting ready to go live to media conference. Some Newcastle media mic flags on display.
Update
There’s a TV network here in the Philippines where they have a saying, tulong muna bago balita (help first before the news).
What does it mean?
There’s an Irishman guarding a pot o’ gold.
Ahh Nine Brisbane… always entertaining at least.
It will be featured on Media Watch for sure
Nine Sydney is running this story too, even featured a preview during the 5:57pm newsbreak.
Minor blooper tonight. After a cross from US Allison was seen on the big screen behind Pete for the next story.
