Nine News Content and Appearance (2020-Feb 2025)

Look, I couldn’t give a shit what side of the screen they do the sport preview from. I really do not care. What I do care about is how some people see fit to jump on someone for some easy likes, because they are desperate to be part of the in-crowd. Why? It’s a media forum. We’re all nerds. Embrace it!

I don’t want to further diverge from the topic, and I certainly don’t want to fall out with anyone - we’re all a nice bunch - so I’ll leave it there.

I. Did. Not. Jump. On. The. Guy.

Stop creating drama and conflict where there isn’t any. You’re the one causing the disharmony.

From a completely obersvational perspective…

I have noticed a lot of things Jack says get taken out of context, perhaps from being poorly written, or just not taken at face value. Regardless of why the person may standout, I find more often that not this user contributes fairly to discussions, and raises things that are no less pedantic or minuscule than anything else this forum focuses on. So come on all, lets have fun in the forum and have banter but lets not heap up on people.

I do actually a see a bit of Drama/conflict here and I’ve decided to avoid discussing it to prevent further straying from whichever thread at the time. But since it’s come up again, that’s my two cents. People who also notice what I’m seeing aren’t wrong for commenting on it.

As a Mediaspy Vet I’m sure you’ve spent plenty more time on here than myself, but that badge should imply a bit more understanding of the diverse audiences we have on this platform.

No shade to anyone. Love, peace, and extremely niche media discussion <3

Topic related question: Do we think Adelaide and Perth will get the revamped 9 News desks that are less pointy and more curvy?

It is a bit of a pointless change in some ways, but arguably 7 has spent heaps more on random desks over the years, lol!

Yes I think it’s clear all states will receive a new desk now.

Thought that Melbourne might’ve been the standout because of their relaunch but it seems like it’ll now be a gradual rollout.

Nin’s 4pm bulletin caps. Not a bad bulletin; no opening headlines.

Sport is great

Ends at 4:56 with a straight cut from Monica to Todd Woodbridge on Tipping Point.

I agree. I think it also goes back to my post in the Ideas, Suggestions thread. Let’s remember we have people on the forum from all walks of life and show a bit of kindness and respect to people.

If the persons posts bother you, mute them.

Now back on the topic of 9News, I really wish Melbourne would pinch Sevens Hamer Hall live shot and use that for the afternoon bulletin. Seven only use it as a secondary screen live shot these days. They’d much rather showing off the Marvel branding and have a bit of a bignote of showing their logo on the stadium

I’m guessing it improves the flow of the news?

Thanks for the caps! Perth looks much nicer and well lit than Adelaide despite having a similar open CBD facing studio.

Must be sizing. Harder to notice the hard angle in the desk and never any GLARE all over the floor.

Sport looks fantastic presented like that. Shame none of the other states have a videowall of that scale (including Sydney).

As I mentioned the other week, it would be great to see Nine build a more modern videowall equivalent on the RHS in the other states which have the lightboxes.

They’ve tried this video wall a few times over the years. Weather was always done over there in the early days of the STW set. But often the reflection and glare really takes away from it. They’ve done something to make it look better. Now i love it!

Sydney’s is the nicest given they can modify the duran part cause its screens. But we STW has a nice long wall hahaha. These sets are so consistent but also entirely different.

Correction: On 8 April 2024, 9News Sydney broadcast a report about a coronial inquest into the 1988 death of Mark Haines. Due to an inadvertent error in the production process, the report included some historical vision of a different crime scene. Upon becoming aware of the error, 9News immediately took steps to remove the report from any places it appeared online. 9News sincerely and unreservedly apologises to the family of the deceased for any distress caused

Is this legit?? Is this because of Sunrise Early News

Interesting, very copycat move here from 9.

Alex is the regular early presenter, isn’t he? I looked and seems he’s presented all this week.

If so, you’d have to think not much will change presentation wise with it still coming from the newsroom and just a change of supers etc?

Also watching the opener for Mondays bulletin and this happened

Sure is. I’m sure TV Cynic will get the 5.28 video up anytime now.

That will mark the end of an era, as Seven and Nine are no longer showing a full news bulletin (at least 30 minute duration) on early mornings.

I first remembered Nine showing ITN World News (from UK’s Independent Television News) on weekdays in the early 1990s. Then the network decided to produce its own early bulletins, which had undergone several name changes (Daybreak was one). But one thing was consistent, it always aired before Today.

9’s early news has come and gone over the years, folded into Today, relaunched, replaced, relaunched.

Also took the cheap option of airing the Qantas In-flight news they used to produce as the morning news at one point. Then had to put effort back into it. It’s essentially become a long Today News anyway with many of the reporters and graphics being used.
