it’s all so basic powerpoint mock
It’s not exactly compelling, no, but I guess it shows how “basic PowerPoint mock” has almost become the standard for news that doesn’t want to be all “OMG breaking/in your face” all the time, making it look a lot more respectable than that would have sounded a decade or two ago.
It’s sufficient, just like the old one, and as pointed out above, the typeface use aligns it with Sky rather than sorta being “its own thing”. Perhaps my only surprise is how little they used the pink, instead deciding to align with Sky corporate branding as a whole, but in this case that’s obviously a good thing.
On the weather graphics not changing (yet?), I’d presume that they wouldn’t have made these themselves and had outsourced it to the MetService - perhaps that’ll change down the track but I can’t see them changing much beyond using the Sky font; they look fine otherwise.
Just heard Eric say “Tonight on Prime News”
Looks like somebody forgot the new name already!
Bound to happen… he was presenter of ‘Prime News’ for a very long time!
It’s a pretty basic no-frills news service. Literally one camera angle of the anchor, outsourced production and news gathering.
Just a thought, why doesn’t Sky use their Sky Sport Set for News First and still have the controls done from WB Discovery. Atleast they’d have a proper set.
Given what they produce, I’m not sure presenting from an actual set would make a lot of difference or be worth the investment.
I like to think Newshub uses it as a bit of a testbed to finalize stories for the main bulletin at 6.
Guess what, he said it again tonight
Old habits die hard.
Few issues during tonight’s bulletin.
News screen bug staying on for part of the first ad break.
The second ad break froze for about 30 seconds.
And then the weather was cut off because they ran out of time.
From what I understand TV3 also playout the ads for Prime during the news, instead of throwing to Master Control at Sky.
When I worked there it was Prime fed over their promos for their shows the day before aground 1ish then the evening staff in my old department would get the ads from the tv3 play out department and pop them all into a sequence and normalise them video/audio mix day of broadcast we would publish them to the studio for play out like a news item.
This is an interesting mish mash of the different Prime and Sky News elements for this update back in the day
Is it affiliated to Channel 10?
No, but they have the same reason to have that name… Ten was always associated with the “First at Five” tagline until the concept of 4.30/4pm news slots came about - Prime NZ the same but substitute 5.30.
I guess Ten could alternate between that and the just as iconic “Eyewitness News” banner, but Prime don’t have that - it’s been “First at 5.30” from the start. So given they can’t exactly use “Sky News” (when the AUS version is on satellite), I guess it’s the natural option.
A very curious time for Prime indeed: the RSA poppy on Eric Young’s suit would probably date this to April of 2006 [in NZ the poppy appeal is done for Anzac Day, not Nov 11th, for historic reasons].
By this time, Sky NZ had bought Prime out (that had completed in February), but the big rebrand that saw the end of the Nine-but-not-quite “inclined dotty” [as Prime AUS had done a deal with Nine for content over there] and leave just the wordmark from that identity, didn’t come until September.
That said, Nine had also lost its dots by then so perhaps Sky NZ saw an excuse to remove them off Prime whenever they could.
Was also the first couple of months of Sky News AUS actually doing the NZ bulletins in Auckland - of which Prime News was one but they were doing (or soon to do) a separate NZ evening news for Sky itself too.
Hence actually bothering to put their name on it rather than do an intro based on the Prime look of the time; also why the (somewhat dark looking) background of Parliament and the Beehive building in the background, which was not there when it was done here.
Does anyone have Saturdays blooper when half way through a story it cut to the Wellington newsroom where one of the reporters was practicing a piece to cam and not realising he’s live to the entire nation? I tried to screen record but of course Sky Go’s App blacks it out. Could someone upload please.
I quite like the look of the News First part, the watermark looks good.
It just looks like it is missing a brand however, not sure it’s needed on the backdrop.
