Guess it’s just tying it into what the comment was above, assuming it means not natural (in that a tie is more common) and an attempt to look more relaxed?
Ask @Snoozenooze who wrote the story for them.
Alright when’s they’re article saying:
Daily Mail journos slammed over journalism methods: ‘They look reused’ | Daily Mail Online
I’ve got a question now that the new roster has started for 2025.
Of course the presenters don’t just work a 3 hour day for 4 days a week. That would mean only a 12 hour work week.
So I imagine they get in 2 hours early to prep at 4am. Which would mean a 20 hour work week.
If a government funded employee is getting paid let’s say $200k+ for that 20 hours a week, is that reasonable?
That’s a good, but unanswerable question.
We don’t know what, if any, other positions/rolls they may have.
We don’t know how many hours they put in each day just for the program. Remember there is prep time, research & meetings pre & post show.
We also don’t actually know what they are paid.
As has been said often, nobody works at the ABC for a huge salary (compared to what is possible at the commercials).
Do you really think the presenters hear “we’re out” at 9am, stand up from the sofa and walk directly out of the building?
The actual broadcast is only half their day - the rest of their work day is spent preparing for the next show, doing research, working on stories/interviews, meetings, emails, promo work etc. Given the seniority of the presenting team they are likely contributing in other ways as well (ie mentoring, editorial contributions etc).
And of course as journalists they never really stop working given they have to know and understand the stories of the day which is a 24/7 job in itself.
And as shift workers they are entitled to some level of accommodation to compensate for working unsociable hours.
I’ve worked in plenty of newsrooms where the presenter is in and out as close to airtime as possible and doesn’t do much but present, so it’s not always that case.
These breakfast show presenters also record interviews after the show, do voice overs for pre recorded stories and go on location to record segments.
Tony explained his struggle with writing his scripts and I am pretty sure Emma does a lot behind the scenes too. So with a smaller production team, the ABC presenters are probably doing much more work than their commercial counterparts and would definitely be earning less.
The sport and weather presenters also continue on air after 9am, contributing to the morning bulletin.
The PM on all 3 shows this morning. The order was Today then News B that cut away from the interview heading into 8am. Then Sunrise at 8am.
Monday (10.02.2025) - Thursday (13.02.2025): Charles Brice is reading the news, continuing the trend of actually having someone sub in on news this year. It is Charles’s first time doing so. Emma was sent sent to Sydney for the Bridget Jones’s’ Diary junket.
Zan Rowe’s ABC News Breakfast replacement revealed
Triple J Mornings presenter Lucy Smith and regular Double J guest host Sose Fuamoli will be taking over The Beat Report on ABC News Breakfast, alternating the slot each week.
The pair take over from Zan Rowe, who hosted the weekly music news segment on ABC News Breakfast for ten years, after first conceiving of the idea in 2014, while working at Triple J.
Sose spoke about herself and Lucy presenting the segment on yesterday’s show.
Friday (14.02.2025): Catherine Murphy is co-hosting with James today. Charles Brice is on sport and Stephanie Ferrier is presenting the weather.
No separate newsreader on Fridays.
Guy Staynor on with Fauziah on Weekend Breakfast today. First time I’ve seen him on there. Not sure when he last did the Hobart bulletin but a bit of a commute to work there for him.
they do have flights out of Tasmania these days.
