On 7 June News Breakfast interviewed Greens MP Max Chandler-Mather about the Greens’ allegation that Labor is ‘complicit in genocide’. The audience was not informed that accusations of Israel committing genocide in Gaza are allegations and are contested. South Africa’s genocide case against Israel is still before the International Court of Justice. In January 2024, the ICJ made an interim order that Israel should take measures to prevent genocide from occurring to Palestinians in Gaza. An editor’s note has been included on the digital versions of the interview.
Thanks nationalnews for your constant updates regarding the ever rotating schedule of presenters. I’ve given up trying to work out the algorithm of who or why they are absent.
Is this the only broadcaster that allows it’s highly paid staff to take whatever days off they like? I haven’t noticed this on the commercial channels.
It’s Monday, so I’m off, or Friday, so I’m off.
It really is like a circus carousel and you don’t know where it’s going to stop and what horse will appear in front of you. Not good to gain viewer trust and relationships. Something the commercial networks worked out a long time ago.
As I’ve said before, if you claim to have a sport or weather expert, you can’t just replace them with anybody. If you do, it diminishes the role of the expert.
Loving James Glenday hosting this week. I’ve always enjoyed him and also on Weekend Breakfast last year with Kath Robinson. They have always been the best team on the weekends.
Anyone know how much longer they plan to keep Michael in the US? I feel like all the big stories are finished for now until it gets closer to November.
I couldn’t agree more, I could be wrong but I don’t recall the absences being this bad back when Virginia and Michael were hosting together? But I’ve given up watching, because half the time I don’t know who these people are.
Personally, I prefer their regulars and to save the flight. But I see that they have a few absences at once currently, so James is fine in that regard.
They seem happy to have random presenters all the time. I think we should maybe just accept the fact that this is how they work. It’s strange, I agree, but this is the ABC (particularly ABC Melbourne - the same discussion pops up with regards to their 7pm).
Anyway the ABC doesn’t have the pressures that commercial networks do. They can afford to have random presenters because they’re not beholden entirely to ratings.
This morning, on ABC News Breakfast,Nate Byrne experienced a panic attack while presenting the weather. What happened next was a beautiful example of a safe place to work, relevant to live radio too.
Carrie Bickmore shared on radio her own experience with panic attacks for over 20 years. I saw the chat with Tommy Little online last week but the main stream media only picked up on that yesterday, after Nate shared his experience on air.
Lisa’s flawless anchoring there is a world class example, didn’t miss a beat, was completely respectful, mentioning his article and directing people to it and moving on with the programme. I have very seldom seen Australian presenters be that composed and well spoken under that much pressure.
