New Zealand Radio

Had already being doing another role at Mediaworks for some time, the nightshow would have been a voicetracking gig.

GFK SURVEY 3 - Major Metros Top Ten (Survey period: May 11 to Nov 1)

CHRISTCHURCH
Newstalk ZB (N/T) 17.5-16.8
More FM (Hot AC) 12.6-13.4 (Largest share since S3/2019)
Breeze (AC) 10.7-9.9
The Rock (Rock) 9.3-9.7

The Sound (Cl.Rock) 6.9-6.2

George (Dance) 3.4-4.0 (Largest share to date)

WELLINGTON
Newstalk ZB (N/T) 20.1-20.8 (Largest share since S4/2022)
Breeze (AC) 14.7-10.7

Hauraki (Rock) 4.9-5.0
Mai (Rhy. CHR) 4.1-4.9
The Hits (Hot AC) 5.1-4.6

ZB still dominates the conversation as always. Literally.

ZM slides pretty badly. In Breeze terms, Wellington loss is Auckland gain (at least half of it anyway).

Average time spent listening (total NZ):

  • Longest: Tarana (12:14), ZB (12:02), Humm (11:40), Magic/BC (11:24)
  • Shortest: The Edge (4:40), Maori (4:41), Student Radio (5:09), Flava (5:39)

According to the potential/survey figures given, apparently one sticker (or checkmark) represents 322 potential listeners. Could be a needle-mover.

More fm always tend to do well in chch the simon factor on breakfast is certainly helpful

Looks like Lloyd Burr might be replacing Corin Dann on Morning Report:

Last week, we also had Lloyd Burr in the picture, but he looks increasingly like a leading contender to be the new host of RNZ’s Morning Report, replacing Corin Dann.

Speaking of Morning Report - Radio New Zealand are pleased with how well the changes they made to National Radio are doing:

Only just a bit behind ZB in the ratings at the moment.

Thought this would happen at some point, great to see the local show retained. Anyone know if any other More FM local breakfasts are doing the same?

Not at this stage for More FM, seems inevitable though. Breeze Manawatu dropping its local breakfast show though in favour of the network one, thought that would have been the chance to move the More FM show onto the Breeze. They are also ‘efficiently’ using resources by having the same presenter to do both Tauranga and Rotorua breakfast shows next year.

Interesting, thanks for sharing. Will be sad to see Burnzee go after all these years. Agree interesting they didn’t make the swap there too.

Radio New Zealand’s move into the TVNZ building has been delayed by several months (apparently they were meant to be there by now).

Mod edit: don’t post ways to get around paywalls.

I don’t think this sounds like a great move. Lloyd would be fine for TVNZ Breakfast but Morning Report?! Daniel Faitaua would be a better bet if Jack Tame, John Campbell, maybe Paddy Gower are not available IMO.

Yeah, John Campbell would be excellent, but I don’t think he’d be up for doing early mornings so soon after his stint on Breakfast. Same goes for Jack Tame, he seems to have a pretty cushy gig at TVNZ.

Jack has just changed roles at TVNZ and is contracted long term at ZB.

Don’t get the obsession with Daniel Faitaua, he’s fairly dull and don’t think he could carry a 3 hour radio show.

Don’t get it either, fine as a reporter or fill in strictly reading an autocue, not engaging enough to lead anything.

The announcement, by either RNZ or TVNZ, is expected to be made in due course but it is intended that Lloyd Burr would replace Corin Dann. Only time will tell.

$6.26m off estimated surplus is something.

Ash has been great on The Edge Breakfast.
Seems like a sideways or even backwards move for Steph Monks - but that drive show just ain’t working with her or anyone. The new combo sounds promising but I would have just had Ash do it solo.
