Lol well they definitely proved television wasn’t there thing
Today FM recaps its first week on-air.
“But after the amazing feedback we’ve had through the week…”
I wonder where they are getting this “amazing feedback”? A quick scroll through their Facebook posts from the past week tells a different story. A surprising number of posts have no likes or comments at all and any posts relating to Tova seem to have negative comments. The rest are mainly people bickering or whinging about stuff.
Listening to Today FM right now. The cricket just switched mid-conversation into Nixons show. Seamless…
Can anyone here explain all of these mistakes at Today FM? I mostly thought it was a relaunch of Magic Talk.
Were there lots of mistakes on Magic Talk that just wasn’t publicised, or have they replaced everyone with inexperienced operators? Maybe new upgraded tech and studios, but then I thought Magic moved out of the Newshub facility a while ago
It’s first week bugs. There aren’t any new systems. There are some new operators. But a lot of it comes down to doing things differently than before and trying to get the new logs working the way they should.
The cricket rejoin tonight was on me. We tried to come back into program at the right time and cleanly but it’s an all new way of doing things in terms of some stations having cricket and others receiving normal program.
The bugs existed on Magic talk but Weren’t as noticeable as a station in its first week.
A lot of long hours and hard work has gone into every aspect of every show and the logs. Mistakes happen it’s not ideal when they do occur. But I know the team works hard to figure out the cause and find a long term solution it may not happen overnight but it will get fixed.
(Always my own thoughts and views not a company rep just an employee)
Also yes. Magic moved out of Flower St / Newshub November 2020?
When were these pictures from? I notice the old Sky Sport and Nine cricket on the TVs.
They were from mid 2018 and 2020 respectively
Getting logs to work in a talk-format station must be tricky, especially when interviewee’s hang up half-way through or a phone line goes down, cricket gets called off for rain &c. I think the odd misplaced break here and there is entirely excusable.
I want to thank you for your insider talk about how life inside the station is, even if most of us (including myself) don’t like everything about the new station and/or the programming, as I expressed in my opinion about the station, in which I also hope there’s not any harm, it is just taking an analytical, take it easy look at the first week, and suggesting some ideas to get the station better (I’m a foreigner, so I understand some of your general criticism).
Back to the right road, I am surprised of the fact you’re doing breakaway programming in some markets, whilst still maintaining regular programming on other frequencies and on Rova. This was planned from the outset when developing the station, or just contractual issues?
And I understand how this was made and planned over a long time, it just needs to be a bit polished and touch up some of the shows. The station will have its time to thrive. Good luck to you!
Not sure around the breakouts. for REX and REX today I would have a guess that it’s to provide the right shows for the right markets. Similar to how ZB do their rural show in some markets but not others.
You mean ‘right shows’, @theGradyConnell?
Yes, Late night fried brain
I do wish mw and nzme would
Invest on providing decent coverage in chch
Re poor reception
Often get weak signal in parts of town
So need to revert to streaming apps
“We are so stoked to announce that Jo Cotton will be taking the reigns from our legend Gretchen on Southland’s Breakfast Club next week. Jo has been a part of the More FM family as our Nights host and a great mate of Steves for over 15 years now. We know she’s going to do an incredible job and we can’t wait to have her join Steve on Southland’s 89.2 from Monday 4th April!”
Was she still on nights or was that gassed?
Not a name I would have expected, great to see Southland attract a known name to the station.
She finished up at the end of last year.
Which parts? What stations?
This table might help explain why some signals are lower…
The actual stations on each freq is dependent on how often FrequencyFinder is updated, but all the licensee’s are correct as of today from the RSM.
Any commercial station using the LPFM frequencies (which they really shouldn’t be doing, but they seem to get away with), aren’t listed here… and you can’t expect good signals for those as they’re limited by power, being for public use.

TodayFM is looking ahead, we’re not looking behind us.
We want to be balanced, a bit more optimistic and a bit more positive.
That’s what TodayFM is about.
Surprising to see them still trying to market Today as Balanced, optimistic, positive… I realise they are probably talking to the advertisers who seem to have flocked to the station but you only have to listen to Garner for 5 mins or Tova calling David Seymour racist to know that it’s BS. I think that is the main criticism, I don’t mind opinionated hosts but why sell it as something it’s obviously not.
Aside from that, Certainly an improvement on Magic Talk
