I agree in that Nine are no better (or worse) than WIN.
WIN gets criticised a lot on this forum but no one ever points the finger at Nine.

I donāt think Nine were that concerned about the option of renewing the deal with SCA, just WIN were more desperate after seeing first how badly the Ten affiliation hurt them.
Nine having to pay out of the affiliation revenue to make local news under SCA vs WIN putting that on their side of the cost structure probably made the decision in the end, but that also sees us with the current quality of WIN News and these cost cuts to NBN.
The SCA model - higher revenue share but getting Nine to meet their local news quota - probably delivered the best quality local news seen in most regional markets in decades. Covid put a stop to that, and the Nine News Local at 5:30 wasnāt on par, but about where the NBN News bulletins are now, which would be a positive outside NBN regions.

From what I recall, SCA hadnāt been meeting Nineās revenue targets and that was the key driver behind Nineās move back to WIN. I recall SCA also asked Nine for a reduction in the affiliation fees in return for not having news produced for them.

WIN generates a greater proportion of premium revenue for Nine than Southern Cross ever could. In 2016, WIN smartly shunted Nine to the supplementary channels in smaller markets which squeezed whatever gain Nine was making from Southern Cross.

I thought it was already this way from when WIN dumped Nine for Seven in those markets the mid 00s? (roughly around the time WIN owned Adelaide and Perth).

IIRC that was only for a couple years, then it went back to nine, and only in South-east SA. In the other non-agg markets (Tassie, Mildura, WA), the JV/supplementary service only switched to nine in 2016.

Not sure if this is new or has been running for ages (only a very seldom viewer) but NBN Gold Coast has a promo on the top stories of the Brisbane 6pm News titled āIn just 12 Minutesā. Issue is, it aired at 5.53pm.
