I also have a feeling that NBN might not update fully to the Nine News brand until the SCA Nine bulletins have the kinks ironed out, otherwise some people may associate the unsuccessful SCA Nine bulletins with the rebranded NBN ones. But hopefully no later than when NBN move into their new premises.
It would be nice to see a new version of Cool Hand Luke, the current version has been going since 2008 and all other networks have updated their news themes since.
Exactly; most people only see & are aware of what airs in their region (if they watch TV news at all).
SC9 areas are in transition so have a direct comparison, previously seeing the Sydney/Melbourne/Brisbane bulletin (& still seeing it on the weekends) and then the new (& currently sub-par) 9News regional bulletins. Apart from 9NBNâs overlap areas on the NSW Central Coast & the Gold Coast, the same doesnât apply in most of 9NBNâs broadcast area.
Nine need to hurry up & finish the transition to Nine branding by finally getting rid of the NBN News brand. Itâs dragged on too long already & Iâm surprised theyâre still using NBN News promo coverups on 9News national bulletins.
Yeah! The theme music change should be the other way around. I guess their ratings stronghold in the Hunter would drop if CHL pulls NBN 9 years in reverse.
If they really wanna continue the slow slow slow transition, the next thing they should change is the NBN theme music to the 9 News theme music - still keeping the NBN graphics visually.
Then when they move into a brand new studio and set in Newcastle CBD, would be a great opportunity to finally change title to 9 News - that is a very slow easy transition unlikely to alienate viewers.
Promo campaign about how serving Newcastle for 50 years and now more then ever with new investments, a new studio - a new energy and a new name. âNew name, same local newsâ 9 News Newcastle.
And please the new look sets being rolled out for Newcastle too!
And a shot of Newcastle skyline for the Newcastle windows of the bulletin
I donât think Iâd go as far as saying that ratings would drop if NBN News switched to Nine Newsâ current theme, but I definitely think it would be a big backwards step for them to use a theme thatâs even older than the previous (December 2008-February 2014) version of NBNâs news theme!
That streaming device they have on the car is called a Dejero
They sell them for about $32,000
Look at this picture and you can see six 4G modems bolted to the top of a pelican case with a motherboard down the bottom probably running linux. It splits the video across the most reliable links and sends them to a linux server at the TV station which stitches the video back together then outputs it as HD-SDI. This ensures you should get a reliable image to the station regardless of if a carrier is congested or not.
But here is the thing, Telstra now can aggregate a 4G modem over 3 bands plus MIMO on some bands (multiple in multiple out) using a Telstra Nighthawk M1 so in the future you may not have to pay $35,000 for a Dejero, you could just use the new Telstra Nighthawk M1 and a standard laptop to get reliable video back to the station in most metro areas. In fact, JVCâs cameras now have streaming capabilities built in, so you can plug a USB dongle directly into the camera or use the cameraâs built-in WIFI to connect to a Nighthawk M1.
But for now, with NBN covering some outer areas they would probably stick to Dejero anyway, SPECIALLY during major incidents (like the Kurri Kurri bushfires) where the mobile networks kept going down. At least if you have a Dejero with Telstra, Vodafone and Optus SIM cards you are most likely going to stay on air when compared to a single carrier system.
TV stations donât only use the Dejero to go live, during breaking news events they will press âplayâ on their camera and the Dejero will stream the video back to the station so they can edit it and get it on air ASAP rather than drive back to the station.
My thoughts are this is because most regional reporters would have gone home by 6pm and because much of the regional bulletins/windows are prrecorded, it would be difficult to incorporate such relevant local content live. I donât think NBN have ever done more than 1 live cross in any bulletin as a result.
And I donât know that $30k is exactly small change either.
Thatâs ridiculous if there is any truth to your theory. Considering the news goes at 6-7pm - why on earth would reporters whose job it is to report news go home before 6pm? If that is true they need to look at the way they do business and rosters and tree way they allocate manpower and resources. All reporters should be avail (well not all) but a chunk of repairs should be avail to go to air live at 6.
Newcastle goes out live at 6 - and NBN News often runs âlocalâ stories across all markets - so those could have live reports too. A live report is better more up to date information that an edited piece f a few hours old.
And $30k is not a lot - they are gonna make millions from their sale of their suburban studios. And this is the Nine Network wee are talking about - they have the money. They just have to have a news director who pushes for the investments in technology to make the broadcasts better.
