The Roses is a remake of the 1989 movie The War of the Roses. It was written by Aussie Tony McNamara (Poor Things, The Favourite, The Great, The Secret Life of Us, Doctor Doctor).

The trailer makes it look dreadful, I see most reviews are mixed

right meow! anyway… do you boys like mexico?

I went to the movies today (something iI don’t do very often).

Saw “The Naked Gun” … disappointing compared to the original, but i guess most are!

I was also reminded of two reasons I don’t go more… (1) the extreme 24 minutes of ads and trailers between the advertised start time and when the movie actually started and (2) the exorbitant drink prices ($9 for a small soft drink).

The cinema wasn’t very clean either, there was popcorn all over the floor in the row I sat in when i first got there.

There was a grand total of 3 people in my cinema. That says something.

Is that from April iykyk

Wouldn’t surprise me!

Given so few people go to the movies on weekday afternoons on a work and school day, I reckon cinema staff will wait until 6 or 7pm to clean up the cinema, before the evening sessions.

The mess was probably there from at least the night before.. you’d think they’d clean them at the end of each night after all the sessions are over (or first thing before it opens).

Minns Labor Government backs Tropfest return | NSW Government.

The Minns Labor Government is proudly supporting the return of Tropfest, the world’s largest short film festival, as it makes its triumphant comeback to Centennial Park in February 2026.

The NSW Government is entering a commercial partnership for the 2026 event, as well as a discount on venue hire.

UPDATE:

Nine Entertainment is the new media partner of Tropfest.

Have recently seen “The Life of Chuck” and “The Naked Gun”.

Thought they were both great. Particularly loved the former, highly recommended, outstanding, could see some Oscar noms.

And as for the latter, see it purely for Neeson’s new yet respectful take on Leslie Nielsen’s classic Det Frank Drebin and his chemistry with Pamela Anderson who is having some late career comeback, she was really good and IMHO looks so much fresher and down to earth without that old caked makeup schtick.

“The War of the Roses” I feel is an often overlooked flick today, it was a big hit at the time with some of the biggest 80s stars (Douglas and Turner from “Romancing the Stone” fame and DeVito who was quickly becoming huge - not sure if he was an uncredited EP or something as pretty sure he was forming his company Jersey Films).

Simpsons co-developer/OG exec James L Brooks produced it too, he has helmed some of my all-time favourite films as well, such as “Broadcast News” and “As Good As It Gets”, what a talented creative.

Is the subject going to be just how great PVL is?

I’ve just seen it, and I completely disagree with you David/Gene.

Thumbs Up, 5 stars.

OK, I have a question for you fine folk…

If I told you there was a movie called I Heart Willie…what do you think the movie would be about?

A ) A romantic movie about a homosexual relationship with a person called Willie
B ) A horror movie featuring the 1928 version of Mickey Mouse?
C ) A biographic movie about the legendary country music singer Willie Nelson?

And would also also think they’ve given the movie a pretty weird name, given Willie is slang for penis?

Better than modern day Disney

I went to see it the other day. Quite enjoyed it but it did get a bit silly towards the end. Cumberbatch and Colman were as excellent as you’d expect. Great chemistry.
