Why Is Cool Runnings As Well As Other Disney Movies Airing On Nine?

Because they paid money for them? I’m not really sure what answer you were expecting here.

At least in the case of Cool Runnings, it’s tying into the upcoming Winter Olympics.

I’m pretty sure that Channel 9 has been airing Disney films since 2019 when they signed a placeholder deal with Disney to have their movies on STAN before Disney+ launched at the end of that year.

Should be the latest from Disney. Just checked Disney Plus’ (HD format and also available in Closed Caption and Audio Described) and looks the same, only Nine removed the old 90s Walt Disney Pictures opening logo (a rare title Disney haven’t re-mastered with the 2006 or later revamped logo). It was digitally transferred in 16:9 for DVD 25 years ago and later BluRay (at least in the US and probably this print in distribution which can also be purchased on tvod platforms like YouTube Movies).

The film’s original theatrical aspect is 1.85:1, so it checks out. Technically letterbox, but resembles more full scale widescreen as it’s very close to 1.78:1, with only very thin black bars (in the case of caps like here or viewing on say a mobile device it is almost unnoticeable to the eye).

Fight Club airing on ABC Entertains tonight. Not something you’d normally see! From New Regency.

Wonder if they’ve modified the film for broadcast? Especially being the ABC, a critiqued public and tax payer funded company and with an Over 55s skew.

Channel 9 running The Mighty Ducks and sequel D2: The Mighty Ducks tonight, fan favourite Walt Disney kids films from the 90s, used to air on Seven many years ago. There’s also a third instalment, D3.

These should be in the same format as Cool Runnings from earlier in the week, 1.85:1 aspects.

In Australia, the original was initially titled “Champions” and the sequel was “The Mighty Ducks” (home video releases), just to make it confusing.

How long has it been since a CFTA broadcast a movie this long?

That is the 1960 classic directed by Stanley Kubrick and starring Kirk Douglas.

In my opinion, an epic like this should be shown in Prime Time. Not in the middle of a Sunday afternoon.

Looking forward to this tonight, will probably watch in Full HD 1080p via 9Now live stream, missed it at the cinemas a couple of years ago and Stan currently have the rights from Roadshow. Not often you’d bother setting an appointment for a FTA first run these days, unless certain factors align. Also can jump onto the Winter Olympics during ads.

I’m an Alex Garland and A24 fan, loved The Beach and the first two 28 Days pictures and enjoy the genre and it’ll be good seeing Kirsten Dunst and real life husband Jesse Plemons on screen in a thriller.
