The return of Big Brother saw Seven score an overnight win. Seven won Sydney, Adelaide and Perth. Nine won Melbourne and Brisbane (narrowly). Seven won 25-54, 10 won 16-39.

Seven coded the Big Brother program in three segments with the Eviction rating the highest. Overall it was very close at 7.30 between the three reality franchises with none recording a dominant performance. Big Brother topped all three demo groups.

MasterChef was down 80,000 from the previous Monday while The Voice recorded a season low, down 109,000 week-on-week rating lower than MasterChef for the first time this season.

ABC saw its network share drop to the lowest for a Monday of this survey.

I hate this sort of coding. However, interesting to see that the average increased over the show, I suspected maybe the other way. Not much can be concluded from that yet as the length of each segment varies but an interesting note.

Also smashed the demos. If thats all it does for 7 they will be happy. Will be interesting to see where this settles.

Interesting to note Sydney and Melbourne, both in total and demographics, tended to prefer Masterchef over Big Brother if you exclude the eviction portion.

Very impressive launch for Big Brother across all demos. That’s what it needs to be a success. I think on early form viewers will stick with it.

Our family loved the comedic element - if they can keep bringing some genuine laughs viewers will hang around. Angela is casting gold and bloody hilarious, as is Kieran.

I am not a fan of splitting reality shows into various segmets either for the ratings. But interesting with the increases.

A tight battle nonetheless between the 3 reality shows on offer last night - BB, The Voi e and MasterChef.

Viewers in Melbourne and Sydney obviously have taste!

Looks like The Voice was most impacted by BB, missing the Top 5 in all demos.

Finally 7 has a hit

Their top show - by far.

4th biggest premiere of the year behind Master, Lego and married

I’m really surprised Big Brother did so well. I doubt it will stay as high as that though.

Why the hell did Seven need to code BB 3 times. Clearly thought it was going to tank, suprisingly it performed decently - will be interesting to see how it fare over the coming nights/weeks, i’d suspect a drop given how horrible it was - but who knows, could surprise me.

Whats amazing is HYBPA’s retentions from Masterchef.

Nine and Seven’s 9pm shows after The voice and BB are dead on arrival

It shows if you put good first run aussie content at 9 the viewers stay

Imports - they turn off

Basically they wanted three spots in the Top 20 instead of one. In contrast, House Rules didn’t even get a “Winner Announced” coding for its Grand Finale on Sunday night (as they don’t want to draw attention to the low figures).

Big Brother’s season launch was lower than season 11 premiere on Nine which pulled 1.067 million on September 8, 2014, on the back of The Block lead-in.
Still, it was a good start for BB on Seven, taking viewers away from The Voice and MasterChef. As ryaneco said, it will be interesting to see how BB fares over the next few nights.

Nine showed the Queen doco for about the 4th time…

Why on earth…

massive night for big brother, almost a million viewers !
and the first eviction rated highest !

“Well down” ? it’s been 6 years… broadcast TV as a whole is down more than BB dropped in 6 years

I think Seven and the network as a whole will be quite happy with last nights figures.
I expect numbers to drop off a little tonight, but well done Seven in these tough times.
