Data © OzTAM Pty Limited 2021. The Data may not be reproduced, published or communicated (electronically or in hard copy) in whole or in part, without the prior written consent of OzTAM. “Overnight” figures include “Live” (programs broadcast during the 2am-2am broadcast day) and “As Live” (programs recorded and then watched within the same broadcast day). “Consolidated” figures include Live, As Live and “Time Shift” (programs recorded and then watched within seven days of the initial broadcast).

Seven won the first Monday of the 2021 ‘official’ ratings period up against the first day of Nine’s Australian Open coverage. Both networks lost share from the previous Monday while 10 was up 2 points and ABC improved as well.

Seven won all markets except Melbourne that was won by Nine with a +30% share. Nine finished fourth in Perth. Nine however won the three key demo groups.

Night one of the Australian Open drew a disappointing 486,000 in preliminary numbers. That compares to 633,000 in 2020. AO coverage on 9Gem was particularly low.

In another upset, The Amazing Race was the number one show at 7.30, pulling ahead of Holey Moley. The Race was up 50,000 from the launch episode the previous Monday to a season high. By contrast Holey Moley drew its lowest audience so far and was down 455,000 week-on-week.

Home and Away was the top entertainment show of the night while The Chase did well in the afternoon. For ABC, the return of Australian Story also disappointed with 443,000.

10 Shake recorded its highest Monday audience since launch. In the key demos, The Amazing Race was number one in 25-54, with Holey Moley 7th and the tennis 9th.

Small crowd (albeit capped at 30,000 due to COVID-19 restrictions) and smaller TV ratings for the opening day of Australian Open. I don’t think the organisers will be too worried about them, they know both will go up as the tournament progresses.

Disappointing figures for the season premiere of Hughesy We Have a Problem, down on last year’s 395,000 when it was also up against the first night of Australian Open.

Did Seven really think viewers would want to watch 90 minutes of mini-golf three nights a week? Holey Moley would actually work as a once-a-week Sunday night only show…

Despite the Australian Open night 1 coverage last night, Seven won the night thanks to Holey Moley and Home and away. The Nick Kyrgios- Silva Match is a one sided match
Soft figures on the return on Hughesy we have a problem.

Holey Moley would be perfect as a one night a week for an hour show. And, Seven would probably get a couple of seasons out of it. Instead, it’s lost almost half its viewership in a week because of Australian networks insistence in ramming formats, no matter how inane. down viewers throats for multiple 90 minute episodes a week.

Interesting to note that Holey Moley beat The Amazing Race in every market except Melbourne. Good to know that my fellow comrades in Melbourne share my TV viewing habit

I live in Melbourne. Last night I watched The Amazing Race and taped Holey Moley to be viewed this weekend. Same again for tonight (and every Monday and Tuesday from now till Holey Moley grand final).

Should be the last we hear of any talk about the Australian Open permanently moving to February.

That’s great news for 10.

That would never happen anyway. They need it during school holidays to make their dough back.

Night one - but Aussie Open perhaps falling to the same scenario as State of Origin last year in that it doesn’t fit in with people’s viewing and lifestyle habits at this time of the year.

Ratings will obviously go up, but I suspect @Sully’s favourite ratings record is safe for another year

There was something just not right about that episode last night. The canned laughter wasn’t great but the guests on the couches also kept yelling over the top of each other. Maybe they won’t edit The Amazing Race down from 90 minutes to 70 minutes next week.

Yeah, I don’t think Nine will be happy at how most primetime programs on the ABC received more viewers than Night 1 of the 2021 Australian Open.

6pm news ratings also a worry, with Seven News on top in every metro market. Personally I won’t be surprised if Nine News looses the first two weeks on the East Coast.

The pay TV audience was down 24,000 from 2020.

FTA TV in general is down year on year. It will probably be hard to crack the 1 million mark on programs (except news).

The Kyrgios v Ferreiera Silva match (7.10-9.16pm AEDT) rated 605k in 5 city metro, which was higher than every ABC show apart from the 7pm News…

If you’re trying to compare the D1 Night figure of 486k, then you have to consider that this rating is the average covering the whole 7pm-11pm AEDT four hour block.

7:30 timeslot is ready for nine to come and swoop in with both TARA and Holey Moley doing very average numbers.
