Unusual result with 9Gem outrating Nine’s main channel, both combining for a huge win for the network.

The cricket competition drags down The Block and AGT, however Survivor is unaffected posting its highest number since launch.

FU*KING HELL!

Massive result for Nine as a whole as people tuned in to see Australia beating England in two sessions to win the first Ashes test. In Perth the cricket was the most-watched non-news program, especially session 2 which (due to time difference) was right in the middle of primetime.
However, Survivor and AGT both went up from last week (when they were competing against Ninja Warrior grand final) while US cop drama The Rookie had a good start. HYBPA dipped from last week but continued to do well in the demos.

WOW!
Now surely that’s the highest multichannel number ever? It even beat the main channel!

Huge figures for the cricket. Bigger success than 7’s coverage at the end of last year.

Australian Survivor beats The Block in the under 50’s. Something it didn’t do once last year, I believe. This has to be pleasing for 10, especially if they are considering bringing it forward next year to compete against Married.

Look and learn, Seven. These are the results you achieve when you acquire exclusive rights to your sports broadcasts.

Yes. But to be fair, most summer test cricket is out of prime time.

I am ignorant but why is Nine still retaining the rights to the Ashes? I assume it is a different organisation from the summer cricket?

After seeing the cricket ratings soaring like this, Seven and Ten may have to start thinking about talking to England and Wales Cricket Board about the broadcast rights to the 2023 series.

That is true. This not only applies to the cricket but also to the AFL.

Nine held discussions with the ECB a few years ago (I think it was 2013) before paying for the rights to the 2015 and 2019 Ashes series.

Interesting results per market. The cricket ranked number one show in Melbourne, where Survivor was the number one reality show while AGT was 17th. In Sydney and Brisbane, the Block was the top reality show while the cricket was 14th and 11th respectively. In Adelaide and Perth AGT was the number one reality show with the cricket 4th and 3rd. 9Gem was the number one channel in Melbourne and Adelaide.

In the network demo shares, Nine was clearly number one with 10 second in all three.

Highest ever for a multi, beating previous record of 15.1% also for 9GEM (if I recall correctly). It is the first time a multi has beaten the main within the same network.

Big ratings for 9 with the Ashes on 9Gem exclusively and no simulcast deals.

WOW. Amazing numbers for Gem. I knew it would do well, but didn’t expect a 17% share - and even beat the main channel.

But then again, little offering past 10pm on most channels, so the 10pm-12am share on Gem would be quite high.

One has beaten 10 before. Not to long ago either as 10 Bold

Ten is a special case though.

For Nine’s main channel to be beaten by 9Gem is extraordinary, and I think will show the networks that exclusive rights are much more valuable than simulcasting.

Not just Seven, but Ten and Nine for all sports.

Nine would be calling the ECB today, on the back of those results to extend the rights deal for 2023 and 2027 ashes.

The AFL on 7mate in Perth had already debunked the theory that people would only watch premium programming on the main channel, and not on a multichannel. This totally puts it to bed.

While I agree with your argument, it ignores the fact that Seven got better numbers for the Indian test numerous times last year despite the Fox simulcast

Nice figures for Credlin, topping PayTv ratings.
