HALFTIME SHOW 421,000
SUPER BOWL LII 383,000

#3

It was a boring Super Bowl yesterday and reflected in the low ratings here and in the US.
First tie in network shares this year. Married at First Sight continued to grow while the debut of Murder, Lies and Alibis did quite well.
Australia’s big win over Sri Lanka in the second test failed to reach the top 20.
The elimination of Katherine Kelly Lang from I’m a Celebrity rated lower than the rest of the episode.

#4

MAFS getting bigger while I’m A Celeb is shrinking. MKR stays the same.

Interesting that Seven News is doing much better in Sydney these days than Nine News. Has anything changed to give them that turnaround?

#5

Good figures for Married at First Sight and a good start for Murder, Lies and Alibis. 7’s multi channels are really helping boost their network total.

#6

Session 1 of the test match ranked 42nd below the ratings for the Super Bowl. Session 2 later ranked 27th with the Super Bowl 30th.

Murphy Brown was 23rd and Seven’s cricket special Underarm 28th.

Sunrise was approx 65,000 ahead of Today.

#7

Personally, I think it could be down to a number of factors.

*The switch in networks for the cricket.
*Lack of major promotional campaign(s) for Nine News Sydney. In the past Nine have had some brilliant promos, but not really for a while now. They didn’t even bother to promote 10 Years of Peter Overton!
*The current situation at breakfast which would be interesting, because GG & Deb frequently outrated Fergo at 6pm.
*Weather coverage…do I really need to say more? Thought so.

#8

Not again.

#9

How did Brisbane rate? How much ahead were they?

#10

Sunrise had a small win in Brisbane by 7,000; Today even narrower win in Sydney with Sunrise well ahead in other markets.

#11

Ten falling in a heap soon as ABC Monday night line up returns.

#12

Would’ve been ideal for them to have a show ready for Monday nights 8:30/9:00pm this year to carry the momentum through until HYBPA returns.

#13

Isn’t that what DWTS is supposed to do?

Personally, I think they should have put Hughesy in that slot so you had comedy running all year round there.

#14

I don’t think a share with a 1 in front of it constitutes falling into a heap for Ten.

#15

Isn’t that what Dancing is doing? It won’t end until roughly 9:30.

#16

Really? Wow. Maybe 90 mins, but 2 hours is a long time.

Ideally I would’ve have Hughesy in the Monday slot to keep it warm for HYPBA, a factual/doco on Tues and drama/comedy ready on Wed night.

#17

I’m a Celeb may have started decent but has been on a bit of a downward slop since MKR, MAFS started up.

I’d move it to the back end of the year (November/December) where it has a clearer run and for longer, and get some serious competition against MKR & Married (i know it is a cliche to suggest these but a revival of Aus Idol or BB could have enough hype and potential to take away audience from MAFS and MKR).

#18

Most realities go for that long now. Married, MKR are all currently close to hitting that mark and Dancing back in the day, I am sure, was scheduled for 2 hours. When you have to uliminate a contestant at the end of each episode it takes time.

#19

I suggest the opposite. Run it earlier, every night of the week from Jan 5 to Jan 26 2020 and launch a new format to take on MAFS and MKR on Jan 27.

#20

Agree with this, although extend it out to the 30th of January.

Something different is needed, my two cents is to commission a comedy competition show (I have alluded to this over the years in the Mock Schedules thread - see Comedy Showcase). It doesn’t exactly target 10’s traditional audience but it offers a unique point of difference to both MAFS and MKR, and is family-friendly viewing (depending on what type of talent you go after).

If reviving an old format, Australian Idol could be a good option provided it is done on a grandiose scale. Very loud, heavy marketing campaign. Bring back Osher Gunsberg as host, create a balance between the old and new. For the big launch head-to-head against the Australian Open final create a live event at the Opera House celebrating the contestants that featured on the show in the past (i.e. Guy Sebastian, Shannon Noll, Jessica Mauboy, etc.) then go straight into auditions on the Monday for ~3 weeks, partner with Changing Rooms.
