The launch of a new season of I’m A Celebrity saw 10 post its first overnight win of the year and 10’s best result since the Meghan and Harry Interview of March 2021.

The linear results compare to last year that had 1.03 million and 914,000 and 2020 that had 977,000 and 873,000. It is the lowest overnight result for the show so far however delivered the second highest audience share for an opening night.

Elsewhere some high news numbers for the 6pm bulletins while ABC’s Season 8 premiere of Back Roads was the next best entertainment offering of the night. Later, FBI Most Wanted did well for a post 9.30 offering. Nine had its lowest share since the Olympics.

Rare to see Seven’s (all local) 4pm News beating Nine’s offering at 4.30.

Pretty good numbers for the opener of I’m A Celebrity for Ten. Sure, it is down on previous years, but it deliver Ten with good shares and is the top show outside the news.

Quite a drop for the ratings for the season premiere of I’m a Celebrity. However, in Melbourne the show’s audience doubled that for Seven’s telecast of the BBL Melbourne Derby.

The overnight figures for Back Roads season premiere compare to last year that had 511,000.

Wonder why the improvement for 7’s afternoon news?

ATP cup was on Nine

That seems like a big drop for I’m a celebrity. I wonder if the late promotion campaign is to blame.

was it late? It felt like it had been going for months.

And sorry if this is common knowledge, but – apart from 30 minutes – what is the difference between Seven News At 4 and Seven News At 4.30? Are they separate bulletins or the same bulletin just coded in halves?

Normally they have a proper promo for the melbourne cup. This year it was just a simple clip from previous seasons. The proper promo didn’t come until late November.

It’s Seven just being manipulative with the ratings :stuck_out_tongue:
Like what they do for the 6pm News, The Chase, Sunrise etc and the split segments for the ratings. Im surprised that Nine dont do the same for their Afternoon News

They probably should have waited until Sunday to launch. I think it was too close to New Years and the long weekend blur. After getting home late from the beach yesterday, I was in no mood for a reality show marathon.

Watched a bit of the start when they immediately revealed a Big Brother style gimmick with a “fake celebrity” and that was a huge turn-off. After only watching bits of the last season, I’ve given this show the flick and have added it to my long list of “do not watch” reality shows.

They launched on the same date last year and it seemed to work well.

Maybe the turn-off was the “fake celebrity” gimmick then.

The return of Neighbours was also a shocker with the episode failing to make the top 20 and below 81,000. January 3 was definitely too early for that show to return and they also finished up too early in December.

Neighbours seemed to manage it better when they ran up to the week before Christmas, had a four week break, then start again towards the end of January.

It has probably worked well. They have a higher share but lower viewers. That means just less people watching free to air. With the millions of streaming shows to watch I don’t know many that would bother watching free to air nonsense with all those ads.

I thought it was stupid. Also the entry of the “international reality star” tonight…

I watched most of the series last year but not sure I have quite the stamina this year

I assumed this was the norm for most shows now (except live sport):

  1. Record on PVR
  2. Start watching broadcast around 45 min - 1hr after it starts
  3. Skip each entire 4min block of ads.

I didn’t even realise it was back. Did 10 bother to promote it?

I think I saw a few adverts but nothing like the overkill promotion of Celebrity.

Seems Ch 10/11 have lost interest in Neighbours. I understand why they want to screen the episodes in the UK before we see them in Australia, but by continuing with four eps a week when the UK gets five eps isn’t right. I’m happy to be maybe one day behind the UK but having us fall to weeks and months behind the UK is ridiculous.

If I never hear the song/whistle from the promos again I’ll be a very happy guy.

I liken it to Sunrise - they basically hit the reset button at 4.30 - they do another intro, then run through the top stories, followed by news/sport/weather again.
