MAFS scored around what I thought it would and no doubt will build signifcantly through the season.
A bit disappointed in Survivor, yesterday i predicated a based of around 600k but that it could rate around 850k - and my expectations were for the show to land in the 800’s.

Clearly the audience isn’t caring for MKR, i still can’t believe it’s attracted an audience over the past 11 years at all - it’s a far inferior version of Masterchef and you have to put up looking at Pete whatshisface bang on about whatever he is banging on about 3-4 nights a week.

I enjoyed Survivor but WAAAAYYYYY too long - why can’t these shows be 1 hour tops :frowning:

MKR could have done solid 7:30pm business again this year if it reverted back to a tight 60 minute sharp and simple hour - Monday to Wednesday. Not basing the restaurants in people’s homes is a massive mistake but I guess it lowers production costs significantly.

I think it was always going to ‘suffer’ just because it was against the biggest show (Married). I don’t think those figures are too bad for Survivor and at least it keeps 10 competitive, unlike last year.

They’ll have Perth… it’s becoming a joke seeing the write up saying; nine won all makers with Seven winning Perth.

OMG Perth there are plenty of other channels.

Change over and see what’s on Ten or at worse ABC! :man_facepalming:

It’s usually the 55+ people watching Seven in Perth so I wouldn’t get too worked up about it.

Really the only thing that is slightly appealing on Seven this year are those dramas, the Olympics and that Golf show. Otherwise there’s absolutely no reason to tune into that channel at all.

I don’t think that’s the case at all. I think its because 7 used to invest heavily in markets like South Australia and Western Australia. 7 have always seen big audience in those markets because of that. Whereas 9 and 10 have really only invested in the East Coast. This is all going to change at some point though as 7 has clearly cut costs in those two markets.

It’ll probably take the retirements of Jane Doyle in Adelaide + Rick Ardon & Susannah Carr in Perth for there to be any significant ratings shift in those markets.

From a local perspective, I’m personally of the belief that Nine won’t have their position as Sydney’s #1 network seriously threatened until/unless at least one of two things happen - Nine losing the NRL broadcasting rights or Seven replacing Mark Ferguson as their main Sydney news presenter.

@TV.Cynic What year do we have to go back to for when Seven were performing this ordinary at this time of year (after the tennis of course)?

If not last year, probably 2004?

It’s only 2 day so far, so hard to say. Worth looking at the weekly ratings though.

7 won the night this time last year.

If they had something reasonable in the cupboard they could move MKR to 7Two and maybe improve their overall share. But what have they got to last the whole run of MAFS?
Looks like 9 have won the first 10 weeks or so of ratings. Half way to a yearly win.
7 need to rethink and pull something out of the bag…

10 and Nine’s comms twitter accounts have posts after post with ratings info, boats, demos and graphics showing how strong the year has started for them with regards to tennis, survivor, celebrity and married

over on 7’s twitter - not one tweet about ratings…

I think it’s fair to say that other than their news and breakfast, they’re in a world of pain.

That’s the result of complacency and lack of innovation and direction at the network.

Although if this is the kick up the arse they need to rejuvenate and innovate in quality programming across all platforms, I’m all for it.

Which is interesting, as that’s 16 years ago, as been discussed the year Seven News started winning.

The problem Seven has had far too many ‘kick up the arse’ moments over the last few years but they’ve just let things continue to deteriorate.

The negligence their programming and scheduling departments have displayed over the last few years not to stop the (metaphorical) train from derailing is not just inexcusable but unforgivable considering it was something some of us saw coming a mile away…

First I admired Nine for being so honest with last night’s figures, but now I am not so sure. We will have to wait until next week to find out how the first episode actually rated.
