Seven scores a Monday win as Celebrity Apprentice falters for its second episode. 10 lifted by more than one point from last Monday with ABC and SBS also up.

Nine won the three east coast markets while Seven won Adelaide and Perth. 10 easily won the three key demo groups with Seven second.

10 had the two top entertainment shows of the night with Have You Been Paying Attention? and MasterChef both up from last week that featured the LEGO Masters final.

Nine again coded Celebrity Apprentice into two parts. The main portion of the second episode dropped 135,000 from Sunday while the Boardroom component was down 200k.

Big Brother was even with last Monday.

News numbers were up probably driven by the community COVID cases in Melbourne.

In the key 25-54 age demo HYBPA was number 1 with MasterChef 6th, Big Brother 7th and Celebrity Apprentice 9th and 10th.

For ABC, Australian Story gained some extra viewers but Four Corners and Media Watch were both down.

Celebrity Apprentice now back into the fold. It’s going to be an interesting three-way battle against BB and MasterChef on Monday-Wednesday over the coming weeks.

Nine News Sydney’s numbers seemed to be affected by the technical issue which hit mid-bulletin.

Not a good start to season 2 of Emergency, a distant third in the timeslot. Its figures compare to last July’s series premiere which had 544,000.

Seven News gained more viewers in Brisbane.
It was close between seven news and nine news in Melbourne and Adelaide.
Celebrity Apprentice boardroom lost nearly 200k from the previous episode.

Big Brother and Masterchef seems to be stabilising around the mid-500K to the low 600K in terms of core audience. Celebrity Apprentice looks to be about the same but not as demo friendly.

It still outrated its other commercial competitor which was 9-1-1. But perhaps viewers are tiring of medical factuals?

From Nine

Sunrise was ahead of second-placed Today by 50,000 with News B 100,000 behind Sunrise.

Sunrise won all markets except Brisbane that was won by Today. Sunrise rated so poorly in Brisbane (and Today so well) that despite substantial wins in Sydney and Melbourne for Sunrise, Today won the east coast.

Queenslanders just love Nine, for some reason.

Queensland turned off Sunrise largely it seems thanks to Sunrise’s approach to border closures championed at the time by Samantha Armytage. Generally, they haven’t switched back with Sunrise regularly ranking third in the market (though not always).

Well, at least they’ve addressed the liability by removing her. It will take time but surely Sunrise will be able to make ground.

Their news dominating is still bizarre though for the content that they dish out. Guess it says a lot about the viewing habits of Queenslanders.

Well, Seven did ditch their best news presenting line-up and haven’t recovered there either.

Wow very close between the 7.30pm reality shows. I’m sure 9 would have been hoping for bigger numbers for Celeb Apprentice which seems to be performing the weakest in the demos of the 3.

Unfortunately not much they can do right now, unless if they can somehow move Rod Young back up to Brisbane news or get Kay out of retirement. None of that will happen in the forseeable future. Surely Seven can still take advantage of Nine’s trash and be able to offer a genuine high quality alternative. Their problem right now is that they’re trying to imitate them and I don’t think they need to get Rod and Kay back together again in order to beat Nine. Offer a genuine high quality alternative and viewers will come.

I think Nine has always had an intention for this show (and Beauty and the Geek) to replace The Voice to cut down the production cost. It’s not rating as well as The Voice during its blind auditions and even in the battle stages but it could be a lot cheaper and thus more financially viable (depending on Alan Sugar’s salary).

A very competitive and close night! Something for everyone almost.

Haven’t seen Nine’s spin this flat in a long time, after such a dominant performance this year.

Does anyone know how long the Boardroom segment actually goes for? 10 minutes? 15 minutes?

I watched last night and it felt a bit longer than that. I would say a good 20 minutes at least.

I wonder if Nine previously coded a “boardroom”? If not, then maybe they’re only doing it to try to make ratings look better. But if they previously did, then fair enough.

They did the separate coding for Sunday’s launch ep too. That doesn’t excuse them for doing it though in the first place
