Monday 21 September 2020

No way. It has struggled in earlier timeslots against reality shows. This is the best timeslot for it. Ten just need better content for 7.30pm.

Another Monday, another night of ABC News outrating A Current Affair in four out of five metro markets.

While I’m certainly not complaining about Juanita/Jeremy and Tamara/Mary giving Tracy Grimshaw a run for her money, at the same time you have to wonder if ACA would benefit from a slightly more upmarket mix of content to win back Sydney & Melbourne viewers. You’d have to imagine that at least some of those who tune into ACA at 7pm in our two largest markets are also Nine News viewers!

It’s really at “even a movie would probably rate better” levels of appalling IMO.

Wow.

Like the majority, I thought the latest round of 10 News First cutbacks sucked. But surely I can’t be in an overly small minority who thought it was a massive relief that Tim Bailey will no longer be seen on 10 News First Sydney weather?

I mean there’s definitely a time and place for offbeat quirkiness and fun in local news (Mike Dalton on Nine instantly comes to mind), but Tim often made one of the segments of a bulletin which should command the most respect and credibility of any look like an absolute joke. At times, rattling on about weather photos people have sent in and other irrelevant nonsense while the actual forecast had to be sped through so the bulletin could end on time…and there were occasions they didn’t even make it! :open_mouth:

Oh well, at least any “Daily” Bailey fans out there can still get their fix on 2GB breakfast/drive!

And coronavirus could’ve waited a year, but it didn’t and the networks are already staggering the schedules, such as Bachelor in P starting 4 months after it was planned, Masterchef reducing episodes, regular Bachelor splitting 1 episode into 2…

It’s really clunky. It’s not really a coherent bulletin. There’s prerecorded shit and bumpers used to define these. It lacks any semblance of coherence or connection with its audience. The quality has definitely dropped.

I reckon The Block would’ve been massive last night had it not been for the AFL disruption, probably >400k in Melbourne and >100k in Adelaide, for a >1m five city metro.

With the same thinking, the AFL probably would’ve been even higher too had there been no Block.

We could debate this until the cows come home - but just because some members of MediaSpy don’t like his style doesn’t mean that everyone thinks that way. Mine is another family in which he is liked. People know and like Tim Bailey.

The weather commands the most respect in the new bulletin? You better not watch the clowns on breakfast television. :stuck_out_tongue:

wacky weathermen have been around for many years, Tim was hardly the first.

I was shocked to see Warwick Rankin, AKA Commander Strongarm on TEN10 and Wazza the Rock Dog on Sydney’s Triple M, listed as the weather presenter for Eyewitness News in the 1974 Sydney TV listing you posted last week. Made me wonder if he played the role straight or added some of his trademark wackiness to the role. I’ve discovered he replaced Brian Bury in that role so it appears TEN10 has a long history of personality driven weather reports.

I noticed that last week Drunk History had one of most positive reviews by Goggleboxers for an Australian show in recent years. I wonder it that contributed to the boost in ratings for episode 2 despite the lower lead in.

There was a lot more cross promotion this week too on The Project and Have You Been Paying Attention.
