A second night of Katha and Kim and while it didn’t do as well as Sunday night’s retrospective, its rating of just over half a million was enough to help Seven to a second nightly win. Seven and Nine were close to their shares from the previous Monday while ABC was down 1 and 10 shed 2 as SBS was up 3 as the World Cup coverage kicked off late last night.

Some very big numbers for Seven News especially the Melbourne bulletin that had its largest audience since July. The 5-city number was almost 200,000 ahead of Nine. At 7pm ABC News won the timeslot ahead of the much promoted start of Tracy Grimshaw’s final week on ACA.

The top entertainment show was Australian Story; that averaged with 7.30 saw ABC win 7.30 -8.30 ahead of Kath and Kim and Nine’s My Mum Your Dad that was up on the previous Monday. 10’s The Challenge missed the top 20 down 90k from the debut episode of the previous week.

10’s top program was The Project 7pm with 10’s share its second lowest for a Monday this year (after the Queen’s funeral) with a main channel behind SBS. SBS’s best result for the night was World Cup England v Iran, close to midnight AEDT.

Media Watch was the best at 8.30 as repeat episodes of Mrs Browns Boys were the best commercial TV could offer post 8.30pm. ABC’s last minute scheduled change, Brock: Over the Top, missed the top 20. That saw the season final of Planet America disappoint, down 80k week-on-week.

Big drop for Kath & Kim 20th anniversary special from Sunday’s part 1, while The Challenge continued to struggle.

World Cup England v Iran just missed the top 20 but made the top five in 16-39. France v Australia should rate well early tomorrow morning, although we won’t find out the ratings until Thursday.

So much of last night’s show was clips we’d just seen the night before. I’m guessing the original intention may not have been to run the two shows on consecutive nights because there was a lot of overlap in material. Also IIRC Seven didn’t even plug last night’s show on the Sunday night, so a lot of people watching Sunday might not have even known about it being on the next night?

9GO! Is needed a major reboot! This current line up is killing that station quickly!

Ouch to those figures. What is nine doing!

I’ve mentioned this several times - it is because Nine are running Love Island at 8.30 every night but the huge majority of the audience is watching earlier in the night at 6pm on 9Now.

Update: last night Love Island ranked 205th with its lowest Monday audience so far but the show had its ever overnight VOD BVOD Audience of 125,000.

Would have done better if it screened further away from the first.

I feel like it is getting to the point where Nine needs to axe Hot Seat. Hot Seat is getting crappy numbers and losing to The Chase in all markets, which leads to Seven winning the news battle. Nine have already lost Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth and are starting to lose Sydney and Brisbane as well.

As others have said, I would do either of these things:

  1. Move Hot Seat to 4pm and Afternoon news to 5pm. Good to get Hot Seat out of the way but could eradicate audiences not looking for 2 hours of news.

  2. Axe Hot Seat and replace it with Tipping Point Australia. Tipping Point in the UK already smashes The Chase UK, even in Seven-heavy markets and leads to Nine’s Afternoon News winning against Seven. So why not put it in as a lead-in to news?

The Challenge is yet another reality flop for 10.
They might as well just re-run Masterchef at this point.

So why is it still scheduled at 8.30pm on 9GO! instead of 11.00pm? I imagine it would have to be for contractual reasons?..

I didn’t think it was as good as Sunday night. So maybe it’s just as simple as people switched off earlier?

Probably one of the biggest decisions the network will need to make would explain the delay in any decision. I’d imagine it’s on the whiteboard and being discussed.

The host is key for the Tipping Point format, needs to be the right choice to fit the concept. They can’t be a nobody either. No Denyer either. I struggle to see who, anyone with ideas?

I like Tipping Point but I don’t think it’s the right fit for 5pm. I think the show needs a studio audience to bring some more energy.

If there’s a studio audience I’d stick with Eddie as host.

Melbournes cold front seems to be keeping numbers up over summer.
