Nine had its highest Monday share in five weeks to win the night. Seven and 10 were steady while ABC’s night slipped from last week’s high. Nine won along the east coast while Seven had easy wins in Adelaide and Perth.
Nine had a narrow win over 10 in 25-54 with 10 a clear winner in 16-39.

In a very close battle at 7.30pm MasterChef took out the honours ahead of Ninja Warrior and Big Brother. All three were beaten by Have You Been Paying Attention? Home and Away and 7.30. Big Brother and MasterChef did well in the key demo groups while Ninja Warrior disappointed.

For MasterChef it was this season’s second highest audience since launch while for Big Brother it was the best result since week three of the show. For the Ninja’s it was the franchise’s lowest ever result (the previous low was 793,000).

Over on ABC, Australia Talks managed just 454,000, down 100k from the last season of the show.

That’s a big drop for Ninja Warrior.

Australia Ninja Warrior was ranked 3rd in its 7:30pm time slot behind 7:30 and Masterchef. This came when Ninja Warrior lost 171k viewers from The previous episode.
Nevertheless, Channel Nine just won the night.

Looks like the novelty has well and truly worn out for Ninja this year. The bloated duration didn’t help either.

And easy win? They only won by 1% and Seven/10 were very competitive.

I did comment when this week’s schedule was released that Ninja episodes that end up at 2 hours after overruns are way too long.

Viewers have reality show fatigue. You have reality shows on all three channels at 7.30pm and they’re often bloated to two hours. There had to be a tipping point and looks like we finally reached it.

We can only hope networks go back to reducing and scheduling these shows as one hour programs and find something else for 8.30pm slots.

More ratings numbers Ratings: Narrow win for Nine despite big drop for Ninja Warriors including breakfast TV.

It feels like we keep thinking that the ‘tipping point’ has arrived only for a) The networks to double down even more on reality tentpoles and/or b) A show comes around which proves it hasn’t by pulling big numbers.

Rightly or wrongly, the networks are going to keep relying on stretched-out reality tentpoles while there’s still shows like Married at First Sight and The Block which demonstrates they do what nothing else (bar news and live sport) can do - attract big to decent ratings

I’m not too sure if The Block would actually be doing as well as MAFS this year. The last two years it’s always been the weakest of Nine’s lineup of MAFS, Lego, Ninja, The Voice and The Block from a ratings perspective (apart from reveals and grand final). Not to mention this year there’s Survivor/Masked Singer, both of which have proven to be competitive with The Block in demos and TP, as well as The Voice/SAS/Australia’s Got Talent coming on Seven. The Block might have some hard time to deal with for the first time this year with the amount of competition from the other networks.

The issue I had with Ninja episode 1 (which I watched in 50minutes), is that it feels so incestuous and clicky. It’s all brothers and partners, and the same faces all living together and competing.
Then have ninjas face off to go straight to the final? Such a turn off. The ninjas train to do the courses, not skip them.
So it’s no surprise there was a huge drop off and it flunked the demos.

I think the novelty well and truly wore out for ANW in Season 2. But I take your point…

Let’s hope The Block struggles in the ratings and that this year’s season might (finally, after years of predicting the demise) be the last, or at least one of the last. Such a horrendous program.

But fans of The Block are probably hoping it smashes the competition and does 1 million plus each episode :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Some of the gimmicks they’ve used in recent years were very cheap and tacky. Hopefully they stay clear of those this year or let the ratings punish them.

Even MAFS was way down on previous years. Lego Masters and Ninja Warrior are following the trend down. We have certainly reached the peaks of reality shows and while they aren’t spiralling down fast, they’re on their way.

The networks keep investing in reality because they see it as less of a risk than other genres at the moment. But that’s a problem they created themselves in Australia. Which other country in the world relies so heavily on bloated and stripped reality across the week?

Most countries produce reality shows alongside scripted comedy & drama, lifestyle, chat & game shows, lifestyle & factual. The programs prop each other up.

The final chase was fantastic last night, been some good ones lately, don’t tune-in to the show for its length or even the last 30min like I used to around say 2017-2018, but the last 10min are still great to watch sometimes.

However, as per recent weeks, Ed’s Hot Seat doing really well, winning each east coast market and especially Sydney and Brisbane (surprisingly perhaps considering the host’s Melbourne identity and all that), once again Adelaide, Perth and no doubt regional holding up The Chase.

Ninja nowhere to be seen in the Top 5 of all demos. That’s not a good sign.

It’s only taken 20 years but it looks like viewers are finally suffering reality fatigue.

I think it is more FTA fatigue. If you look at the the top programs for last week, outside of Have You Been Paying Attention, every entry in the top 20 in 25-54 outside of news and one sport entry is for reality TV. Nothing much is working for FTA at the moment.

Taking the list further, next entry outside of news/current affairs/sport is Travel Guides at 23rd. The first scripted show in the list is Home and Away 29th.
