Day one of the Australian Open delivers Nine a solid win – main channel and network with interesting results across the board.

Across the markets results were markedly different. Nine won Sydney and Melbourne with +30% shares but 10 won in Brisbane while Seven won Adelaide and Perth. In Sydney and Perth 10 was second, in Brisbane Seven was second. 10 won 25-54 while Nine won 16-39.

Compared to day one of the open in 2019, the tennis was up from 540,000. Networks shares for 2019 were Seven 27%, Nine 31% and 10 with 22%. One notable difference was that Nine’s main channel was up 2% this year, however last year 9Gem posted a 4% share.

I’m A Celebrity continued to lead its timeslot by a big margin while the return of Hughesy We Have A Problem did well posting its best rating in 12 months. Also powering along was The Project posting its highest rating since March 2019. 10 News at 6pm was at a high ranking 22nd.

Is this the first time it has hit the 300k mark?

It’s interesting that Seven News won in Sydney despite Nine enjoying the Australian Open lead-in.
Second year in a row that I’m a Celebrity beat the opening night of Australian Open.
Seven won Perth thanks to the late match between the Scorchers and the Thunder which didn’t finish until close to 10pm local time.

The 6:30 version of the project continues to get stronger. Really positive news for 10. 10 have to keep doing what they are doing with it. @TV.Cynic how did it go in the demos?

Hughesy does well on its return. Why did 10 not air it on Mondays in previous years? Its demos weren’t that great though.

I would’ve thought the tennis would’ve rated higher with Barty playing.

Ten held up well.

Hughesy ranked 8th, 6th and 6th.

Hughesy did well. Its mote suited on Mondays (until HYBPA returns?)
Ten’s 6pm News/6.30 Project improving too.

Tennis rated well too. Though i thought it would rsted slightly higher with Barty playing. Good to see Nine not code the tennis with too many segments for the ratings. Coded as Day, night and late night - 12 hours worth (take note Seven and the crickwt. Lol)

It rated higher than the opening night in 2019 which pulled 540,000.

HWHAP was ranked 14th in overall ratings, though 10 still remained competitive.

Even with a stronger Neighbours against, which did a lot better than it has been lately.

I was specifically talking about the demos. Obviously it did ok in the demos it wasn’t spectacular.

That isn’t too bad. I think 10 would like to see a slight shift and it to at least beat one of the 6:30 news programs in those demos.

Maybe the effect of no 6:30 news on 7 in some states helping.

And a big win for 7News in Brisbane. Welcome back Max!

Last night didn’t have the greatest match (or any in the minutes before) but Nine News still won in local Melbourne (6pm and 6:30pm) and managed a win in Sydney at 6:30pm and within 20k of Seven News at 6pm.

Last year, Nine News managed to win most nights in Sydney and Melbourne during the tennis.

That is contrasted to the previous year(s) on Seven, where Seven News lost in Sydney and Melbourne when they aired the tennis pretty much every night.

So the tennis takes news viewers away from the channel that airs it?

Not really what I was saying, no?

I hope The Project doesn’t build a larger audience. Really alienates most viewers and they’d be better to offer a more inclusive panel show.
