Another competitive Monday. Not much change for Seven, Nine and SBS as ABC dropped two points and 10 was up two. Nine was the winner in total people and key demos. 10 ranked second in demos. Nine won the east coast with Seven ahead in Adelaide and Perth.

The Block was the number one entertainment show. SAS: Australia lost 100k from the previous week to a new season low. Junior MasterChef improved 40,000 but was still a distant third. Have You Been Paying Attention? lifted this week to easily win its timeslot. Nine’s movie Casino Royale ranked 24th with The Rookie on Seven 26th.

ABC shows lost ground across the board with Four Corners slipping below 400,000.

Big drop for Housos from last week’s premiere. 7Mate lost share in total people and key demos.

Four Corners lost nearly half of its audience from last week. Viewers were just not interested in this week’s subject (students who are completing Year 12 this year). The team will have to accept that not every topic on the show will resonate with viewers.

Seven News Sydney managed to win the whole hour against Nine News.

These numbers (esp Sydney) are horrific.

And Hot Seat was even ahead of The Chase (only by 1k though) in the 5:30pm half hour in Sydney!

Good job Seven News Sydney.

They might as well cut their losses and go national. There really is no point continuing with these numbers.

The ratings for the equivalent day last year were roughly the same. And last night according to 10 the news was “#1 in its timeslot in 25 to 54s, 18 to 49s and under 50s.”

Last year: 352,000 87,000 90,000 80,000 33,000 63,000

After 59 years on air, I’m sure they know that by now.

Viewer retention for 10’s 6pm bulletin was again quite high last night.

The Melbourne Cup preview show did not really benefit from the good lead-in from HYBPA and without any promotion it probably should’ve aired at around 10:30 instead.

Yes, Adelaides numbers are absolutely shocking too. They could almost run a test pattern in that city and it would rate the same.

Channel 10 stopped doing news in Adelaide, a lot of viewers switched off as a result.

Before I go on and discuss the more interesting ratings stories of the day, I again have to ask the question: What is so appealing about The Block for viewers to (usually) make it the #1 entertainment show of the night in lieu of any half decent competition?

From what I’ve heard about this year’s season, the product placement is worse than ever and I’d probably go as far as saying insulting to the intelligence of viewers. Then there are the incredibly poor attempts at humour with those “Married At First Site” and “Farmer Wants A Fight” graphics…

By 30k at 6pm and 43k at 6.30pm. During the 2nd half hour, Seven’s ratings increased while Nine’s decreased as well.

I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before 10 News First becomes an entirely national (likely with the exception of an updated edition for WA presented by Narelda) bulletin on weeknights.

Indeed, Four Corners usually fluctuates in the ratings depending on what topic they’re looking at that week…and probably has done so for a very long time now.

Typically it’s episodes of the program featuring major investigations or focusing on something topical that are the viewer drawcards, while the more human interest type of stories which occasionally run on 4C (students completing Year 12 this year is undoubtedly worthy of airtime, but probably the type of thing that’d work better as a shorter 5-10 minute report on 7.30) aren’t really so much.

True, I still think the timeslot is the issue, their only news service outside of primetime.
