A 2-point Monday win for Seven with a 3-point lead for the main channel on another night when multis drew big shares of the audience.

The BBL landed above 300k for only the second time this season helping Seven to lift by 3 points. Earlier Seven News did well to win all markets.

Second-placed Nine was down 2 with a disappointing season low audience for the final of Snack Masters. The audience of 311,00 compared to the inaugural season’s final that had 454,000.

ABC was down +2 week-on-week with Summer Australian Story making the top 10. Brian Cox’s Seven Days on Mars that followed just missed the top 20.

Meanwhile 10 was down 0.5 with The Project 7pm the network’s top show while a repeat Bondi Rescue slipped into 20th place. Mission Impossible ranked 41st.

The second rating session of the World Cup (post 2:00am) saw 411,000 watching in preliminary numbers with Sydney again the top viewing market. The number will be averaged with Sunday night’s audience of 246,000 – with varying proportions for each market depending on time zone. The post game ranked 35th. That result compares to 2018’s final that averaged 486,000 in linear viewing.

Sunrise (7am – 9am) made the top 20 again , 30k ahead of Today.

Big audience for the World Cup final despite the 2am AEDT kick off time. It will be interesting to see the revised figures for both linear broadcast and live streaming later on.

Low numbers in Perth for the BBL (Scorchers were competing) due to the 4.15pm local time start, when many people were still at work.

After a day of terrible publicity, the Ten Network slumps to 4th place with a 15.7 % share and the 6.30pm Project way below 200,000 viewers.

Ouch.

Seven won Melbourne (by 3), Adelaide (by 4) and Perth (by +16). Nine won Sydney by 4 and Brisbane by 5. Seven won the key demos.

Doesn’t bode well for the future of the network with cricket rights up for grabs

Ten have finished 4th on every Monday since early October. It has more to do with their programming than poor publicity.

I would say it is both.

Lisa Wilkinson has certainly generated a massive amount of toxic publicity for the network over the last 6 months.

The demos tell a different story, which is where all commercial network’s interest lie. 10 was an easy third place in 25-54 and 16-39 with double the audience of fourth-placed ABC in both and just 2 points behind Nine in 16-39. 10’s main channel outrated the entire ABC network. 10 Peach was the number one multi channel in the demos by a long way - outrating the entire SBS network in 16-39 and coming close in 25-54.

As usual, The Project performed better in the demos than in total people. The Project 7pm was 8th in 25-54 and 16-39. The Project at 6.30’s 16-39 demos were even better than Snack Masters.

So the total people numbers don’t tell the whole story plus yesterday’s story had no impact on 10’s results that were almost identical demo share-wise to the previous Monday.

I realise that demo shares are not posted in detail, but there is enough information posted over many years for members to know that key demographics are where the money is made and they should take that into account.

I admire your logical argument and for the great work you do on this site everyday.

However, there is one flaw in your summaries around demos which is a little outdated.

The biggest trend in advertising and agencies over the past 2 years has been to target the 55 year old woman, who is now recognised as being the person with the greatest decision making and purchasing power in the market.

Advertisers have ignored the over 55’s for years and now do so at their peril because this market holds 3/4 of the wealth in the economy.

The 16-39s argument holds much less appeal that it did even a few years ago especially at the younger end of this demo, who are harder to reach on television anyway even if they were to be targetted

Watch this trend continue over the next few years

PS, If you could give me a breakdown of the 44 people in Sydney that tuned into the Ten breakfast program, that would be much appreciated.

You’re a dog with a bone, aren’t you? Your Ten-bagging in every thread is boring.

And what’s going to happen when that demo gets older and slowly becomes irrelevant when they depart from this earth? Do the advertisers just stop and shut up shop?

Fact of the matter is demos matter otherwise 10 would’ve died ages ago. 10 isn’t a ‘roast chook’ network in the same way Seven/Nine is. Their recent failures are more to do with their flaws in primetime programming with shows like The Challenge and Real Love Boat.

Without shows like The Project their shares would be about 4% every night so the argument that everything is the fault of The Project is moot.

This is kind of interesting too… both of these shows (it seems) were done to please the parent company and save costs. The Real Love Boat because they were using the same boat (& crew?) as CBS, and The Challenge to add more content to P+ and get more use out of the international set. I don’t think 10 would have commissioned these shows on their own.

Hunted and The Traitors definitely target a different audience and feel much higher quality. They both feel more 10.

The Challenge and The Real Love Boat remind me of when 10 had Everybody Dance Now and The Shire… cheap, crap reality shows that flopped.

The demos definitely matter, my point is there is more weight being placed on the older because if you were to target the 16-24 years for example, there are much better and cheaper ways to reach this audience than television

And if everything really is going so great with The Project, then why is everyone leaving?

Those who left might’ve left for personal reasons regardless of ratings? Even if The Project was the top rating show each night I’m fairly sure the likes of Carrie and Pete would’ve left if they wanted to anyway.

Really?

7 9 and 10 still sell and monetize 25-54 first

FTA linear overnights skew heavily old. Which is why you will increasingly see 7 dominant and abc ahead of 10

The total people system flavours older viewers of which abc has the most and 10 the least

Yeah I get it

But I can assure you there are not many advertising briefs arriving at tv stations anymore for a campaign to target 16-24 year olds

But increasingly we are seeing briefs targeting 30-65 year olds
