A very rare number one for 10’s main channel off the back of the second episode of Hunter that achieved an equally rare increase in audience for a second episode. Last night was up 90,000 on the Sunday premiere as it went head to head with the competition from 7.30 in contrast to starting 30 minutes later on Sunday.

The result also delivered a boost to Have You Been Paying Attention? that recorded its highest rating in 6 weeks. Nine won the night in network shares with 10 an easy winner in the key demos on its best Monday of the survey.

Next best at 7.30 was ABC where 7.30 and Back Roads made the top 10, up on the previous Monday.

Meanwhile the second Red Faces special just pipped the second Beauty and the Geek of the season. Red Faces lost 185,000 from Sunday – perhaps one episode was enough nostalgia - while the Beauties and Geeks were down 70,000, that’s 130k below the lowest rated episode from 2021.

BATG was 9th in 25-54, a worry for Nine, though the show was the number one streamed entertainment show off the night.

Impressive for Hunted to post an increase from Sunday’s debut.

Interestingly, HYBPA had more viewers than Hunted in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, but there was a significant drop-off from Hunted to HYBPA in Brisbane (I wonder why?).

Big drop for Red Faces from Sunday’s episode.

Fox Sports’ live telecast of the Open Championship final round (Aussie Cameron Smith won the tournament by one shot) did very well in the middle of the night.

From Nine:

  • Beauty and the Geek was the No.1 live streamed entertainment program of the night.
  • 9News is the No. 1 program across the East Coast, in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane with Total People.
  • ACA wins 7pm timeslot across 5 City and in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide
  • Today wins breakfast slot across the East Coast and in Melbourne & Brisbane with Total People
  • Today Extra is a timeslot winner in Sydney & Brisbane with Total People
  • 9Network win Monday with Total People

Great results for 10, with Hunted/HYBPA helping them win the night. Nine just came second with Nine News winning on the east coast. Unfortunately Beauty and The Geek dragged their result down.

Very Good figures for CHannel 10 thanks to Hunted and HYBPA.

Hunted is becoming quite a hit. It’s rare to see a show actually grow from the premiere these days. Ten launched it at a good time with pretty weak competition from the other networks, which has probably given it it’s best chance of exposure.

At least Ten tries different stuff whereas 7 and 9 seem to take each others shows or copy each other eg Beauty and The Geek on 9 used to be on 7.

Very pleased there must have been some water cooler chat about Hunted to increase ep 2 ratings. Great to have a bit of variety and something fresh and different
Let’s hope 10 don’t try and cook the golden goose and do more than 9 eps next year…3 eps over a week (with two 60 min eps) is probably the right amount to not get viewer fatigue

In network shares, Nine won Sydney and Brisbane, 10 won Melbourne and Seven won Adelaide and Perth. 10 was second in Sydney, Adelaide and Perth. 10 network, main channel and 10 Peach were all number ones in the demos.

In 16-39 the was a huge increase in 10’s audience - as noted above, Hunted was up 41% in that age bracket on the launch episode. That saw 10’s main channel outrate the combined audience of 7 and 9’s.

Best of Red Faces two nights in a row was a strange programming move by Seven - I guess they are just using it as filler until the Commonwealth Games starts. It’s cheap content and keeps Daryl happy.

No surprises that Red Faces 2 flopped. One special would’ve been enough, but of course we know Daryl thinks otherwise.

Hunted is doing very well and is pretty much 10’s biggest show this year so far. Goes to show that networks need to make that leap of faith to earn good ratings these days. Beauty and the Geek is heading towards Big Brother territory and Nine would be hoping its BVOD ratings and catchup will be decent otherwise this has no hope of being renewed next year.

There’s a lot of programs on both 7 and 9 which I think won’t be renewed next year. Both networks need to think of bigger and new shows. 2+ hours of reality TV 3-4 times a week will not have viewers stay and watch.
Hard to get the magic million now

More and more people are timeshifting or streaming dramas and reality series.
500k now is the equivalent of 1 million five years ago in overnight ratings terms.

Worth noting encores for shows as well. Hunted easily won its afternoon timeslot.

Audiences want NEW content! It is tough, because when trying something new things is not a strong success rate. But when it lands well, it can be strong.

The exception to the rule is Married at First Sight and The Block. MAFS has very strong BVOD and live streaming ratings, and The Block’s ratings always grow from week 1 to the auction finale.

Ch 10 completely deserve the strong ratings for Hunted for coming up with something new and spending a bit of money! Also interesting to see The Project beating Home & Away in all states except WA.

He doesn’t understand the saying “less is more”. Maybe people thought the first show would be the “best” but it turned out to be the the “worst”.

And if 10 start to be more competitive, 7 had better watch out. 9 has an extra channel, so they may find themselves coming third more often.
