It was another overnight ratings win for Nine but the contest was closer than recent results. Compared to the previous week Seven and 10 posted gains with Nine, ABC and SBS losing audience share.

Nine was the most popular network in all markets except Perth where Seven won by 10 points. Nine also won 25-54 while 10 won 16-39.

The Block was well ahead at 7.30 despite losing 80,000 viewers from the previous week. Junior MasterChef was up slightly from the launch episode while Seven’s Border Security was uncompetitive.

Another first release popular movie flopped on its FTA premiere with Seven’s Crazy Rich Asians missing the top 20 in total people an posting poor demographic results.

Have You Been Paying Attention? was again number one post 7.30 spots with 4 Corners second ahead of RBT on Nine.

Junior MasterChef held its audience from Sunday’s premiere but trailed The Block in 16-39 and 18-49 demos, so 10 has its work cut out.
Last night was the wrong night to air such a popular movie like Crazy Rich Asians. It should be shown on Fridays or Saturday nights after the current AFL season finishes.
Hot Seat beat The Chase in Brisbane by a decent margin at 5.30pm.

Interestingly Hot Seat was in front of The Chase in Sydney at 5:30pm, but Seven beat Nine for both the 6pm and 6:30pm portions in Sydney’s news.

Though it did allow Seven to post a higher Monday share than the last two weeks. Hopefully Seven won’t be tempted to air America’s Got Talent on the main channel ever again.

Crazy Rich Asians would’ve done well if it was on a Friday/Saturday. Not on one of the weekdays when you have 2-3 first-run programs on the other networks as competition. Seven needs to commission more post 8.30 content next year, or they should just air The Latest at 8.30/45/9.00 right after their 7.30 show.

Good idea, or even axe The Latest and just call a new news show “Seven Late News” to put it in line with Nine’s Late News, and it can air for 30 mins immediately after the 7:30pm reality show.

Agree with other members, wrong night.

Also didn’t think this would rate, considering Seven’s primary demographic, I mean fairly niche even if a surprise hit, more suited to a 7flix, 10 Peach, 9Go! or even… 10 Shake

Pity 10 couldn’t gain many viewers for JMC. I wonder how it will go next up against SAS.

That was Sydney’s part.
More Melburnians seem to be switching to the Chase now, however it’s clear Nine News Melb still has the upper hand with the higher figure at 6:00. Melburnians switched to Seven News at 6:30.
In Brisbane, having Hot Seat filmed there really is giving Nine the advantage, they’re able to win from 5:00-7:00. Seven News Brisbane is struggling with figures less than 200,000 throughout the hour.

Very low audience for 10 News last night. Mainly seemed to be due to low Sydney audience numbers, though Melbourne was down on recent results as well. May have been due to late developments in Sydney where Seven News had a rare win over Nine at 6pm. ABC News in Sydney was also well up on usual results.

On second thought, having seen the number on TVT, it’s actually not too bad, higher than some FTA premieres have done this year including on Saturdays.

Looks worse because it’s outside the Top 20, but helped Seven’s share vs last week.

The result was bad. The demos no better - beaten by Four Corners, Media Watch even in 16-39.

Agreed, most people who’ve wanted to watch Crazy Rich Asians would’ve seen it via other means well before last night’s airing on Seven.

The days of FTA premieres of movies attracting millions of viewers are long gone. People have far more options these days, compared to 25 years ago when the FTA premieres of The Fugitive + Four Weddings & A Funeral received over 2.4 million viewers for Nine.

Aside from that, a very boring night of TV all round. Seven & Nine probably should be thankful that the AFL & NRL paused during the height of the pandemic resulting in this year’s finals running until the penultimate weekend of October, because if it wasn’t for that I’m sure overall ratings would be even lower than they are now!

Fair enough. All I was saying is there’s been much lower numbers, on less competitive nights and in earlier timeslots, “Skyscraper” on Nine comes to mind (which coincidently was re-run on 9Go! the other night).

Sky News continues to inch upwards. The highest figures in its 22 year history. All whilst STV subscription levels are dropping.
