Nine notched up its fourth consecutive Monday win despite dropping 2 points from the previous week. The Block was down 160,000 from last week’s one off Monday reveal episode while the debut of Love Island Australia that followed bombed (at least in linear TV numbers), out of the top 20.

In the key demos Nine won 25-54 while 10 won 16-39. Nine won the east coast markets with Seven ahead in adelaide and Perth.

Love Island’s third season was down 140,000 from the second season in 2019 that had 456,000. Will have to see how live and VPM number compare.

Seven and 10 were both up week-on-week. For Seven, the final week of SAS finished fourth at 7.30 and was the lowest Monday result for the year. But, Seven News won at 6pm though Nine News was number one along the east coast.

For 10, MasterChef was over 600k down 20k from the season debut while Have You Been Paying Attention? was a timeslot winner and up 60,000 from last Monday.

Four Corners did well for ABC while Australian Story and Media Watch were down slightly.

Love Island absolutely tanked. Might regain in the VPM numbers.

Celebrity MasterChef retained most of its audience from Sunday, despite increased competition.

Maybe not such a good match up with The Block?

Smashed by everything else in the demographics.

Keep in mind that it ran for almost 2 hours and went till around 10.35pm.

I watched it but it was way too long. Having a premiere that late for that long was overkill.

Source? I’m sure they want it to be a success on Nine too otherwise they wouldn’t bother screening it.

9 were probably trying to emulate the UK where the show doesn’t start until 9 pm and yet is still a big success.

With those numbers for Love Island maybe they should’ve put the show back on 9Go for those who prefer to watch it on linear.

I think the bigger problem is that both The Block and this is stripped across the week which is going to drive further reality fatigue. If they had some variety for the 7.30 slot then that might be less of a problem.

It’s been one episode. The Block started off shockingly this season and look where it is now. Let’s wait and see what happens before trying to bump it.

You know a primetime program has rated pathetically when it receives slightly less viewers than a show airing at 3pm in the afternoon!

Agreed. IIRC Love Island is a multichannel show in the UK, so maybe it should be one here too.

Any podcast you listen with those at nine have suggested this is the show that drives their online platform. Of course you wouldn’t air it on the main channel without wanting it to succeed. But the main target would be online.

Pathetically? Right. It’s very common these days that afternoon gameshows beat later night programs. Do many people really consider a show running beyond 10.30pm as prime time these days? It might be from a ratings perspective but they rarely get huge audiences.

I can’t think of that many shows that actually pull much more than 300k post 9.30pm especially in the younger demos. Love Island has also done very well on streaming in previous seasons and Nine would be banking on this.

Shake’s audience share up a little from last week, possibly suggesting it’s new Monday line-up of True Life Crime and The Twilight Zone attracted slightly more viewers.

In fact I reckon this is the kind of show that would be 70% banking on streaming numbers and 30% on linear overnight numbers which explains why it’s a lucrative show despite the low overnight numbers. If it was purely based on linear it wouldn’t have lasted the first season.

With the new total TV ratings as a form of measurement I expect Love Island to get some massive consolidated figures which will look much better than the current numbers.

You’re 100% correct.

Nine and industry media analysts have stated repeatedly that Love Island is a 9Now / BVOD first commission. From what I can recall reading it is is the single best BVOD performing series in Australia and is demographic gold. It’s been credited with being a key driver of 9Now usage. It also plays into the success of the overall brand and the UK series also on 9Now

No Australian broadcaster would produce such a high profile series that is reasonably expensive and then NOT run it on broadcast also. But Love Island exists to fuel 9Now, not broadcast ratings

That said last nights overnight numbers would be a a little softer than nine would have liked - I suspect. Of course Love Island also lifts better then most shows in delayed viewing as well as you pointed out

Love Island is in show where looking at overnights alone is not relevant

Plus it does well overseas in the UK so would be making some $$$ for Nine that way (unless they have a program swap deal for the UK version)
