The 2021 ratings race heated up on Monday night with the debut of Seven Holey Moely Australia and 10’s The Amazing Race Australia.

Seven took out the honours to win the night in network and main channel shares just ahead of Nine’s combination of MAFS special and prime time Millionaire. Holey Moley was the easy winner almost at just below 1 million while MAFS slipped from Sunday night.

The biggest loser was 10’s Amazing Race that just manged 500k well down for the 2019 series that debuted to 634,000.

Home and Away was also back but managed just under 600,000. In the afternoon The Chase was an easy winner over Hot Seat. Seven News Perth even higher than Sunday night, outrating Brisbane’s bulletin.

Attention now turns to see how many return for the second episodes tonight.

Holey Moley did better than I expected. That’s a really good start for it. Ten would be disappointed with The Amazing Race.

I’m not surprised in the drop for MAFS. Last night’s episode was just way too long and felt like mostly filler content and looking back on things that everyones well and truly moved on from. It wouldn’t surprise me if it dropped off a lot as the episode went on.

Good start for Holey Moley. With timeshifting, the audience should reach 1 million easily.

The Chase and Hot Seat were neck and neck in Melbourne, as were Seven News and Nine News.

Disappointing figures for The Amazing Race Australia despite blanket promotions over the past month.

The new season premiere of Four Corners did well, but down a little from last year’s 589,000.

Millionaire fell from last week, not helped by the 9.20pm start.

Doing blanket promotion can work against you. People get fatigued about the show before it’s even started. I think Ten have hammered the promotion about TAR too heavily, sometimes twice in a single ad break. And now it looks like we’re going to get smashed with MasterChef promos months(?) before it begins.

Having said that, I did watch TAR last night. Not sure I’d sit through the whole series but overall thought it was good.

Holey moley got off to a good start beating MAFS and the amazing race Australia.

As expected. A flop.

Nine won the three east coast markets with Seven ahead in Adelaide and winning Perth by almost 17 points. Nine won the key demo groups.

The Perth lockdown saw huge numbers for particularly Seven’s afternoon line-up and potentially distorted some usual rankings. The Chase had 118,000 at 5.30pm while Seven News at 4 was also six figures and ranked 8th ahead of Nine News at 6pm.

Even Seven Morning News was well up and ranked 12th in Perth while Seven’s midday movie plus ABC’s Afternoon News and News at Noon also made the top 20 in Perth.

Perth was Sunrise’s second biggest market on Monday after Sydney and saw the show 65k ahead of Today.

The results helped Seven’s Afternoon News 5-city figure 100k ahead of Nine’s Afternoon News.

Why was it expected? I don’t think anyone said it would flop. It did better than a lot of other shows Ten has in prime time.

Holey Moley isn’t the best show in the world but at least it has proven that viewers are willing to give unique, innovative formats a go and the ratings would support this argument.

The real challenge is how many will stay tonight and it could go either way.

10 have really blown a golden opportunity in Amazing Race. Having Summer’s most watched entertainment show obviously wasn’t enough to draw more viewers to The Amazing Race.

As for MAFS, let’s hope that this season’s ratings is about the same as what it got last night (or even less). Inadvertedly caught a bit of the show on Sunday and it was still vile and filthy garbage from the bits I saw.

Holey Moley delivers for Seven. Perhaps MAFS has peaked? Although it may have been due to the re-heated contestants from past seasons for yet another reunion.

According to comments on social media a lot of people didn’t like what they saw in the first episode of Holey Moley. Will be interesting to see how it rates tonight.

Great numbers for Perth News, with Seven News Perth smashing Nine. Why wasn’t Hot Seat on in Perth? Also does anyone know the ratings for Tipping Point?

Don’t forget people crave new blood with MAFS so the new season will probably rate as well as it normally does. Jessica/Cyrell are last years news.

Amazing Race also heading to the Ballroom floor. As Ten have not much else to offer I assume they will run the reason as it is. Hope it doesn’t sink as low as TBL did. Beau isn’t the right host.

Holey Moley did well for the launch. MAFS Reunion did well, but could have done better. Not so good for the Amazing Race though.

Who Wants to be a Millionaire Celebrity Special did alright for a 9.20pm start (and for a 10.45pm finish)

Reckon Seven will be happy if Holey Moley eventually settles around 700,000 - 800,000. However, the spanner in the works for both it & TAR will be the Australian Open and how the cards fall for it (ie; how far Australian players go in the tournament)

Low return for Home And Away (597k). Heading into Neighbours territory when it was rating that in 2010 before it was moved to the multi-channel.

Blown a golden opportunity in what way?

Getting The Amazing Race off to a good start. They had the most watched entertainment show in I’m a Celebrity over Summer which was a platform itself to give Amazing Race some decent exposure, although now thinking about it, the over-exposure may have actually had the opposite effect instead.

But how does that count as blowing a golden opportunity? What else could they have done differently?
