Mock Schedules

She’s very happy. Thank you for asking. She’s just stopped driving recently so happy to have more to watch on TV. Would love Beyond the Gates though lol.

I wouldnt object to Friends or Big Bang Theory at 6pm if the game show hour remained at 6:30pm.

I do agree in principle that 10 needs to invest in the 7:30 til 10:30 slot. The biggest problem is that each of the 3 main channels program the same genres in the many of the same timeslots.

If 10 could invest in something different at 7:30pm and push for more risque realities it might give a point of difference. I guess this is why some have suggested starting realities at 7pm to break the 7:30pm roadblock of realities 10 need to think outside the box to try to draw audiences back

See this is the one thing I would be getting rid of. Unless they can get something fun, new and exciting then it will continue to be a failed venture. 10 should have gone harder at a show like The Floor. To go for shows that have failed on other networks was just not the right call.

I would hardly call Millionaire Hot Seat a failure given how long it was on air. I think Nine moved too slowly in the last few years and should never have extended it to an hour in 2017. Even Deal Or No Deal lasted from 2003 to til 2013. Both shows were probably on air in the original format for too long.

In my opinion, 10 does have the right idea in airing 2 half hour game shows as opposed to a 1 hour game show.

My question to you, is how do you gauge a success if you see programs that are on ten years of more a failure?

I know give the Young-uns Real retro Comedy early 1990’s Sitcom that might help meet the Local Content Quotas Colin Carpenter?:winking_face_with_tongue:

Unfortunately most wouldnt get that humour and programs like Comedy Company and Fast Forward, Full Frontal and Totally Full Frontal would look aged. Not many young-und would know who Sir Joh, Jana Wendt or even John Howard was to laugh at the send ups

It’s a failure if it’s been axed. Don’t get me wrong it obviously did well for 9 to be on air for 10 years. But to bring back a show that was tired was an idiotic move. No one was really saying ‘I wish they brought back hot seat’

Nine had a long, well-established history with the Millionaire format prior to Hot Seat, and that experience helped enormously.

10’s issue is that they are trying to present their version of Millionaire Hot Seat as an exact carbon copy of ITV’s version — which… it very much isn’t (sorry, attempted a bit of a Gibney-style pause there).

At the very least, the McGuire-hosted Nine primetime Millionaire specials were stylistically much closer to the versions hosted by Clarkson and Kimmel.

That may all be true… but couldn’t it just be fatigue? Both game shows have had over 2000 episodes aired on Australian TV. Even though I don’t think game shows are the answer, surely a newer format would work better? :man_shrugging:

I don’t think 10’s audience is gonna turn on FTA tv/stream to watch a game show.

Unfortunately 10s ‘audience’ left them a long time ago. I’m probably one of them. What would actually bring them back? Game shows won’t. Big brother did. I really do think the investment in reality at 7pm could.

Problem is, 10 basically killed The 7PM Project by letting Roving loose with their endless tinkering. Yes, they needed to replace Negus — but morphing what was intended to be a light entertainment program into something resembling an ITN-style news production, and allowing Roving to treat the network’s news operations as their “plaything,” was not the best or brightest move.

A reality program would probably rate at 7PM, but the individual franchises might not draw as large an audience as they currently do in later time slots.

If 10 want a game show at 7PM, they should work with Working Dog to revive Blankety Blanks. If they want a satirical news program, they could produce something in the vein of That Was The Week That Was. Alternatively, they could commit to in-depth, state-based news at 7PM and compete directly with the ABC.

Why are people intent on 10 dropping Millionaire Hot Seat before its been given a chance to build an audience. If 10 can give 10 News + 6 months before any changes in structure, surely Rebecca Gibney and Hot Seat deserve the same

The only mistake 10 has made so far was not launching Hot Seat a month earlier and try to bolster I’m A Celeb numbers through January.

It will take a long time for 10 to encourage viewers to change their viewing habits BUT 10 need to keep reminding viewers of programs and timeslots. Do to Hot Seat and Deal Or No Deal what Seven did with Home and Away - keep reminding people its on.

The idea of Blankety Blanks alternated with Come Dine With Me and maybe something like The Price Is Right alternating with Hot Seat and Deal Or No Deal.

Possible line up

6:00pm Millionaire Hot Seat (35 weeks ); The Price Is Right (17 weeks)

6:30 Deal Or No Deal (18 weeks); The Price Is Right (17 weeks); Deal Or No Deal (17 months)

7:00pm Come Dine With Me Australia (13 weeks); Blankety Blanks (13 weeks); Come Dine With Me (13 weeks); Blankety Blanks (13 weeks)

The 7pm shows could have number of weeks reduced and screen a program like Big Brother at 7pm for 4 weeks.

Ultimately I would propose

150 new episodes each year for Deal Or No Deal, Millionaire Hot Seat and The Price Is Right and 120 news episodes of Connie Dine With Me Australia and Blankety Blankc per year. Repeats to fill gaps

Local news is the only thing that rated okay at 6pm - while also being cheap to just extend. You need to basically focus on 7pm onwards. The Project was the show that worked - they just needed to shake it up, it had grown stale and the casting was off.

I’d kill off any daytime news, just run national updates until around 4pm and then local updates can begin, have the news teams start much later and go across primetime with live updates.

It’s a very basic idea, but leaning into their local news - don’t run ANY national news during the week and run their own race with primetime shows.

5pm: 10 News Local

6pm: 10 News Local

6:30: Millionaire

7:00: Nightly primetime programming

9:00: 10 News Local

10:00: US Dramas/originals repeats

11:00: US Dramas

I know this is possibly new format territory, but I think 10 should look at getting the rights to something like New Zealand game show 7 Day, and either to produce an Australian version during the week or screen the New Zealand version on Saturday with an encore during the week. 7 Days currently air on Thursday night on Three in New Zealand.

The opportunity here is to attempt to gauge interest plus the New Zealand version would also count in Australian content quotas

A little too close to HYBPA.

Yeah, this is why HYBPA NZ didn’t work (in reverse)

Because it’s a disaster and doesn’t fit 10s brand. It’s a show no one was asking for.

Could the 7 Days NZ work on Saturday nights when HYBPA isnt on. This season of 7 Days has 20 episodes

My ideal 10 Weekday evening would be:

5pm: Local News
6pm: Deal Or No Deal
6.30: Millionaire Hotseat
7pm: PM - Similar to Seven Sharp in NZ. Ideally hosted by Georgie Tunny and Beau Ryan.
7:30: Primetime
8:30: New International content (e.g. NCIS, SVU)
9.30: 10 Evening News With Ursula Hager
10pm: The Daily Show
11pm: Late Show
12am: Infomercials

Weekends:
5pm: 10 News
6pm: PM Weekend Edition
7pm: Regular Evening Programme
