Was it odd to keep in the contestant saying “Why would a man write a book about a female chess player?” and adding audience laughs and Rebecca smiling and giving her own nod. just odd.
Probably hard to edit it out. I don’t imagine they do takes at the end of the questions for different reactions.
You could tell he was very disappointed to get 8 questions right and miss out on the last one and the $250k. Some contestants just hide their disappointment better than others.
There is an interesting episode of The Rest of Entertainment podcast about this actually, where Richard Osman talks about it (at least in the UK context). From memory, the gist was that when a network commissions a game show they work with the production company of an ‘average’ giveaway per episode and the production company move forward with that. Presumably, insurance plays a part as well for big wins, and I’m sure there is something in the contract covering the networks arse if it all goes wrong, they end up giving away significantly more than planned across the season.
The $250k week did not last long. Tonight’s final question was worth $50,000.
Are they airing another win of this magnitude after a whole week (well, 3 days)?
I feel like it’s great they are putting on so many wins! I fear for the major ratings months (winter) when they only have 1 win a week.
