The Age Green Guide’s review gave Hot Seat 2.5 stars.
The contestants on this show shit me lol
Why wouldn’t they use their pass when they don’t know the answer? They keep saying they have no clue and it’s a guess but then they get it wrong and are out.
Is there a strategic move to that?
The thing is if you used it, you will go to the 6th position immediately and may not come back.
The downside risk of both options is not getting anything. So might as well just go for it, even if the chance of getting a question right is 25% on paper.
It will also, intentional or not, screw over the contestants after that because the questions supposedly requiring 45 seconds start to be pushed up to the 30-second range.
Hmm ok. Makes sense i guess.
I knew the answer to the penultimate question which was about who was the first woman to fly solo from London to Australia.
It was the subject of a question on the British version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? when Duncan Bickley (who was, ironically, a pilot) lost £218,000 on the penultimate question and dropped down to £32,000.
I just check YourTV guide, week 2 will be Ep 12, 38, 1, 82, 42.
And the supplementary number is… ?
I wonder why shows like this couldn’t run closer to recording order.
If it was up to me I wouldn’t insult viewers intelligence by trying to manufacture bigger results for certain prime nights of viewing. I just don’t think people are more likely to tune in Mondays just because there are bigger winners or in general for big winners to be honest - unless it’s the big million which so rarely happens.
I used to enjoy Family Feud where the shows played out in sequence by nature of the returning champion. I used to enjoy that about the old original Millionaire show in its heyday. Contestants ran across episodes and it felt organic.
They should just name the episodes in the broadcast order: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and so on.
No one would be the wiser, unless they participate in them.
Tonight was the first episode of the season in which a contestant failed to answer the final question correctly and only won $1000. It was Jefferson.
With this format do the questions remain at the level of the prize money on offer, so if question 15 is for $20k they get a question which would be standard at the $20k level, or is the final question always of the level it would be for the full million dollar jackpot?
Alternatively - barely any viewers are cognisant of the episode number. So it makes sense for Ten and the production company to refer to them by their order of production.
They could title them like the one where Jefferson only won $1,000. Oops that would give away the end result ![]()
I’m pretty sure Tipping Point numbered their episodes, at least on 9Now where it would be most visible, in the order of broadcast. But, I think TP and MHS are different production companies, right?
Could airing episodes airing in a non-consecutive order be intended to give a false impression that say episodes 1-8 weren’t screened on the same day eg 8 days in a yellow suit, then 8 days in a blue suit etc
Female presenters dont have the same luxuries as male presenters AND I daresay, back in the days of Sale Of The Century and Wheel Of Fortune, there would have been a lot of time lost with co-host costume changes
They only taped 4 or 5 in a day, so it wouldn’t be that bad of a problem. I get your point though.
It’s very rare for any new gameshow to air the first episode filmed first (unless the format requires it) as it’s often better to debut with an episode where the host is more comfortable in the role. Mixing them up is fine (I hadn’t thought about the clothing situation) but they need to avoid getting into a pattern of certain nights having the big wins. I assume they air 5 nights a week for now but wouldn’t be surprised if after Easter if Friday’s turn to repeats.
I agree that this is a big miss with modern gameshows. You would think that having returning contestants would be a good hook to keep viewers coming back, rather than every episode being standalone. The original millionaire became must watch viewing when a contestant had made it quite far and then we had to wait until the next episode to see how far they would go.
However if 10 did that, it wouldleave them with a dilemma of, “do we do a cliffhanger every episode or every 3rd episode we have none meaning the following episode can be a repeat”.
They would have to be very clear when airing new episodes to the audience and not just the people in this forum who study schedules.
In the old format naturally every 2 to 3 episodes it would finish on a contestant leaving, so scheduling repeats would not be a major issue. Over summer in particular, they could simply repeat batches of episodes together. Plenty of game shows used to do that.
If most networks are planning to air repeats on Fridays longer term, that is probably the only real constraint as to why they don’t do this anymore. The Hot Seat format itself is designed around self-contained episodes, so I’m not necessarily saying it would need to change. I just agree with the point that when older school game shows often that had carry over contestants, I generally found them more interesting.
