Metro Radio Ratings - Survey 5, 2026

Weird shift for MMM Brisbane afternoons. I wonder what changed?

so smooth in sydney having a fantastic survey 1 FM and a 13 share is terrific the music strategy and the lineup firing on all cylinders and 2day having a decent survey as well and SCMs MD team building a decent audience with the new music strategy

Mix 94.5 3rd. Usually it’s one of the top 2 FM stations. Gold 96FM is one of the shining lights for ARN this year

Fitzy, Wippa and Kate number one in Drive nationwide.

How could that happen? FM was meant to solve the interference problem. Also, getting AM to appeal to anyone under 65 might be nearly impossible.

Perhaps ARN should then sell Cruise 1323 to SEN and move SEN SA from 1629 to 1323.

Well given those over 65 primarily listen to AM (2GB, 3AW, 4BH FIVEaa) would explain it at least for other capitals. I guess in Perth once they are forced to go FM they stop at 96.1 ?

Or they switch over to 6PR?

Or the 102.5 FM coverage area is actually smaller than the 720 AM coverage area so some listeners disappear for good.

I doubt Cruise listeners would be at all happy about that.

There’s room for the Gold format on FM and the Cruise format on AM. They’re quite different.

I’m actually quite shocked the move to FM hasn’t helped ABC Perth. The only explanation I think is plausible is that older listeners are literally stuck on AM and can’t bring themselves to flick the band to FM.

I find it totally bizarre!

3 points down in 65+ age bracket but so was Gold - but there were only small gains by AM stations - so a switch off of the stations being surveyed to something else.

Perhaps the switch to FM saw their listeners discover what else was on FM like some community radio (random thought).

The ratings share for the Other DAB+ stations on among the 65+ in Perth is up 3.4 from the previous survey (3.2 to 6.7), whilst Other AM/FM is up 0.6 (22.3 to 22.9).

Is it due to them specifically or due to Kyle and Jackie O finishing?

You’d have to wonder if Fitzy, Wippa and Kate would be the ones celebrating the milestone if the switch didn’t occur.

I assume it’s more just the general problems the ABC have attracting listeners - their local radio product just isn’t good.

There’s plenty of regional areas where ABC Local radio is on FM, with even less competition, and they still do dreadful.

Of course the end if Kyle and Jackie O helped make it happen but they’re saying they have more listeners than even when Nova Breakfast was number one in Sydney.

They are also celebrating being number one in Drive. They might have unsure about the switch initially, but from what we’re hearing on the Fitzy, Wippa and Kate show, they’re actually really happy with switch to Drive this year.

Ricky-Lee and Tim were the ones who wanted the big Breakfast switch and although they seem to be enjoying it, you do hear them whinging sometimes about the early starts and changes to their lifestyles which doesn’t sound a little bit like regret.

Overall, I think Nova would be happy with the switch and probably really pleased with The Joel Creasey Show which they created. It has also allowed Joel to work the Perth Breakfast shift (at a reasonable time for him from Melbourne) and do other things like fill in for Chrissy Swan this week.

Fitzy sounds like he was pushing for it due to moving and also probably being a bit burnt out and a lifestyle change.

All three sound like they have a new vigour for radio since moving to Drive. Fitzy certainly sounds happier and Kate has gone back to 5 days a week and sounding happier than ever.

What if ABC Radio Perth decided to target a younger demographic? That would probably be impossible to do on AM.
