The salary’s are still important though, i don’t know how many staff they have on MW but id imagine most of them are working a considerable amount of the working time on it in some capacity

No mention of WIN’s decision to water down NBN News. Would rather rant about Donald Trump then discuss local issues.

Everyone needs a hobby. For Media Watch it is ranting about Trump.

But in fairness to the Media Watch team, I don’t think half a week is enough time to research the NBN/WIN story in enough detail to tell us anything we don’t already know. If I was them, I’d be researching the story now but I wouldn’t run a story on it until after NBN News changes format. See what the impact actually is, and how it measures up against what people say will happen.

The job of Media Watch is to provide extra depth and analysis to a story. I’d much rather Media Watch wait and do the story properly rather than do a half-baked speculative story now only to have to do the job properly later on anyway. If that gives them more time for their favourite hobby, so be it.

As fun as bashing Trump is, it’s a show on the _Australian_ Broadcasting Corporation. Surely a story about a major upheval in _Australian_ television trumps what is really a nothing burger of a story (at least in the _Australian_ landscape) for a show like Media Watch.

As for research - look at the amount of discussion on the topic. We’re more informed than Linton on this issue. That’s a problem. 🤣

Show how much the ABC cares about its own sector…

Just thought of this one BTW - but MW not mentioning the WIN-NBN News saga, could it also be due (in part) to MediaHub being own 50-50 by WIN and the ABC and not wanting to piss the other off? I do doubt it, but the question should be asked.

I think it makes sense to not mention the NBN cuts if MW had nothing unique to add but replacing it with Trump when I also can’t imagine MW had anything special is a choice…

it’s regional though so will take a few weeks before ABC notices.

5 minutes just playing and recounting US news reports about CBS and 60 Minutes, which most ABC viewers wouldn’t even be able to watch. No mention of the connection to 10 (Ellison now owns 10 too. Will there be an impact here?).

Also no mention of NBN News. And not even a word on ABC news director Justin Stevens resigning after a “fundamental disagreement” with new MD Hugh Marks, and Marks already having a replacement lined up.

Is this an Australian media commentary show or just a roundup of whatever clips the team can find online? Feels like when Paul Barry would just dedicate segment after segment to tabloid magazines when there were more important topics to cover.

MW has criticised the ABC itself in the past, so I doubt their partnership with WIN would scare them away from a story
