Liddle, a columnist for the Sun and the Sunday Times, died at The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough on Sunday evening.
A former editor of BBC Radio 4’s flagship Today programme, he also had a weekly column in the Spectator, as well as a show on Times Radio.

Social media star Sydney Towle has died aged 26 after a three-year battle with a rare and aggressive form of cancer.
Towle, who amassed more than one million followers on TikTok, documented her cancer journey online, sharing the realities of chemotherapy, surgeries and life as a young person living with the disease.
Her family confirmed her death on social media, saying Towle died from complications related to cholangiocarcinoma — a rare bile duct cancer that had spread to other parts of her body.

Former Wallaby and rugby league player Brian Smith has passed away at 59 after a battle with cancer.
Brian Smith played five Tests for the Wallabies in 1987, before controversially switching allegiance to Ireland and playing a further nine. He then played 43 league matches for Balmain and Eastern Suburbs in the early ’90s.

‘Migrant beauty queen’ Tania Verstak dies aged 85
The woman once dubbed Australia’s “migrant beauty queen”, has died aged 85.
Tania Verstak was the first non-Anglo woman to be crowned Miss Australia in 1961, before being crowned Miss International in 1962.
Ms Verstak was born in China to Russian refugees in 1940, before her family immigrated to Australia, settling in Manly when she was 10-years-old.
