They used the cherry picker instead of using the helicopter.

According to Sunday Herald Sun’s Fiona Byrne, the ball drop had to be modified at the 11th hour after the Civil Aviation Safety Authority declined to issue a permit for the radio stunt. CASA explained on Friday it had not been given enough time to process the application.

Good thing there is a plan B went in place.
But still who does that cancelling the helicopter minutes before the ball drop?
Someone trying to garner publicity…
I suspect Plan B was always Plan A

Not to defend ARN, but it’s highly unlikely that they were the ones requesting the approval, questions need to be asked of the helicopter operator as to why.

Yeah, I think you’re spot on.
According to the article:
“CASA explained on Friday it had not been given enough time to process the application.
Safety is a priority for CASA. The timing of the helicopter operator’s formal application did not allow us sufficient time to evaluate the risks involved with the radio station’s stunt and whether it could be carried out safely," a spokesman said.

Fair point, I wouldn’t exactly expect K&J or their production team to be experts in aviation safety.
But they did it 365 days ago. Weren’t they planning on doing it again in-line with the Australian Open?
Even if they did it doesnt guarantee an approval
Surely ARN had planned on this months ago - and given the events of their 2025 running of it, they would’ve been more “on the ball” to ensure smoother sailing second time around.
Here’s hoping in 2027 they can finally execute the ball drop as planned.

Kyle was furious about getting his new Panel Operator for the KJ show because he requested that to the management 6 weeks ago and they just posted that job post last week.
Why can’t Coops John take that job. Shame he didn’t get that job. Plus what a waste of time of him when they came back and it was his last day on Jan 19
Is he a Panel Operator? That’s a particular skill you need to have.

I think the current Panel Operator will be moving to a Producer.
One of the Producers will be leaving tomorrow.
