KIIS Network

What a waste of money that OB was (and to have local media join) while kyle puts down the city off Melbourne and blames the audience for not listening.

“This is just the beginning for us in Melbourne” What about the last 12 months?

So that would give ARN a metro footprint of 4 Gold aligned stations and 4 KIIS aligned stations.

I guess at some point they will roll out the KIIS and Gold branding regionally.

I think that’s the plan, but I wonder if the KIIS brand is now too tarnished for a national rollout. If it included K & J, I just don’t think it will work in the regions. If they haven’t done it on 102.9 on the Gold Coast, then I think it’s going to be a while before we see it go anywhere further. The Gold Coast is practically a metro market these days with similar revenues to Adelaide, according to ARNs own media release a while back.

What I don’t get really is why it’s taking them so long to put Gold on DAB in Brisbane and KIIS on DAB in Perth. And why the delay rebranding Cruise to Gold. ARN seem really slow at getting this stuff done. Nova rolled out Smooth on DAB in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth seemingly overnight, and that was like years ago.

Why is ARN so slow? They seem to put time into explaining these strategies in Board reports and media releases, rather than just getting on and doing stuff. Why do they give the competition a heads up on what they’re doing, and then take months and years to implement it?

I don’t know what ARN’s doing. For the GC they removed the GM role and have now reinstated it. Putting Hot Tomato under the metro structure and now reversing it. I’m sensing hesitation at ARN because anything they touch turns to sh*t. Eg: Networking K&J to Melbourne, taking over 96FM, rebranding WSFM, launching CADA, etc.

I had drafted a long-ish post about the lack of institutional knowledge within ARN to understand networking (especially when compared to SCA, Nova and Nine) and develop content that can work across markets, but even then:

Why not have a Gold DAB station in Brisbane, even if it was the same playlist as KQ on a loop until such a time that you could monetise it and/or network shows from Melbourne & Sydney? Hell, the same for KIIS in Perth.

Worst you do is have yet another wasted DAB station. The best you do is lay the foundations for something better, like how smooth went from being a glorified jukebox in Brisbane/Adelaide/Perth to a full-scale station.

As you say why isn’t there already a Gold DAB station on air in Brisbane as a music loop until they can work out the networking. What if one of their competitors jumps in and puts a Gold station on first? Then their national rollout would be screwed. There’s nothing stopping SCA or Nova from doing it right now as a blocker.

KIIS is also will give away tickets to see Lady Gaga on her concert this year from today in BNE/MEL
KIIS Syd will follow next Monday as they still give away tickets to the Easter show.:blush:

Rod Maldon on 96fm after 5pm, not Will & Woody. Time will tell if this is just for the break. No K&J at 6pm either.

Surely Cruise and 96 are going through some form of transition period. Networking from eastern states cannot be a permanent fixture.

I’d rather axe Huggy and network Christian’s show on what’s obviously going to become Gold1323.

96FM is becoming a Gold station

Will we be expecting a rebrand when this transition it finally complete?

Is Gold also coming to Brisbane on DAB?

An advertiser boycott targeting the Kyle and Jackie O breakfast show has taken a massive potential multi-million bite out of the duo’s revenue takings at KIIS FM.

Industry sources have told News.com.au radio bosses at KIIS’s parent company ARN are fast losing faith in the bold and expensive experiment that saw the famously lewd and crude Sydney breakfast duo, Kyle Sandilands and Jackie “O” Henderson, broadcast to the conservative family-oriented Melbourne market to humbling ratings from January 2024.

Shareholders too are struggling to come to terms with what now appears to have been a miscalculation on the part of the ARN executive team led by CEO Ciaran Davis who, industry stalwarts claim, has effectively handed the keys to radio network to an intractable Sandilands, from whom they licence the controversial breakfast show.

As Sandilands reluctantly put his hand up at the weekend for “probably” some of the blame concerning his program’s poor Melbourne results, and in the same interview bullishly declared that “if (ARN) want to cancel the show, they have to pay out”, ARN’s share price touched down after a decade-long slide to a low of 56c.

The result is roughly 90 per cent lower than its 2015 peak of $5.42, a high achieved the year after Davis engineered the radio duo’s leap from rival network SCA.

Makes Melbournites sound like a bunch of prudes. Don’t think that has anything to do with the “humbling ratings”.; much more likely that the show in not LOCAL!

it’s probably a bit of both: the content which isn’t resonating with Melbourne, and the fact it’s not local

The article also said they broadcast from January 2024. I thought they started a few months into the year?

The southern audience malaise, which now threatens to impact the planned national rollout of the Kyle & Jackie O show to Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide, Newcastle, Canberra and the Gold Coast next year, is being compounded by a storm of related issues.

The rest of the country can thank us for stopping this expansion.

So Melburnians want to hear pissing competitions and graphic descriptions of oral sex for breakfast?
