Imparja Television

The Best of the Nine Network? It’s all of 9, Go and Gem, not a selection!

Someone living in the Remote region wouldn’t know who the Nine Network is nor would there be any significance unless they are in a transmission black hole with a VAST box or they have travelled to a city. As far as they are concerned it is Imparja content (exception being Nine branded content which there is more of now than in the past). There is nothing promotional about that line to a normal viewer.

I think you’re underestimating the intelligence of Remote viewers just a little. I think most would associate Imparja with Nine considering it’s where Nine’s Wide World of Sports is exclusively broadcast, as well as Nine News. They see untouched Nine promos and Nine dots in the logo. They tune to LCN 9. I don’t think it’s that much of a mystery or that big of a task to associate both brands together. The execution of it from Imparja’s end leaves a lot to be desired though.

Imparja on remote terrestrial TV and Imparja on VAST are the exact same thing.
I re-read this and realised what you meant. Yeah, they would instantly associate Imparja with Nine because they would be used to seeing Nine elsewhere in their area.

I agree, the tag line is like it’s ripped from a network “upfronts” preview video.

Everyone knows exactly what the Nine Network is. It’s not like viewers in these areas live in a bubble and have no exposure to media and the outside world. And the Nine Network is hardly an obscure entity, it’s been around for 60 years.

Imparja’s 9Gem showing Outback Brothers before (I assume) the special NT election bulletin starts at 6pm ACST. Their schedule is all over the place. They placed “Nine NT News” now at 5pm ACST with Outback Brothers following at 6pm ACST. Clearly should have been the other way around

At least it’s still using its own branding instead of Nine’s.

Though the promos carry Nine branding.

It was reported in the NT News today that one of the owners of imparja television is in huge financial trouble. Because it’s a subscription link I can’t put in link. Instead I will put out a summary of what has been happening of late

“ MEDIA ASSOCIATION OWES MILLIONS AS DEBTS CONTINUE TO GROW

DESPITE being placed into special administration earlier this year, the Central Australian Aboriginal Media Association’s (CAAMA) debt, estimated to be in the millions, has continued to grow‘

According to the NT News article, CAAMA’s unaudited financial report for 2019-20 indicates current liabilities in excess of $2.7 million and an operating loss in excess of $1 million, said Selwyn Button, the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations. It had mismanaged royalty payments to artists and as a result, it owes them approximately $100,000.

Serious financial trouble indeed.

Will they have no other option but to put Imparja TV up for sale to pay off the debt?

What puzzles me most is I have found an article on https://alicespringsnews.com.au/2019/05/04/imparja-caama-may-part-company/

Haven’t they sold the stake or not? There remains a lot of questions to be asked.

And now this https://alicespringsnews.com.au/2020/09/25/caamas-financial-problems-deepen/

That’s for more information as far as I can find.

If it’s losing money it would be hard to find a buyer. There aren’t many media operators around with money to spend, either.

As I posted back in February, CAAMA no longer owns any shares in Imparja.

From a bulletin issued by the special administrators to CAAMA in April:

Southern Cross seems to be able to operate Seven Central OK, so there’s hope that it can be a viable operation.

But yes, mass changes would most likely be made under a new owner, if one can be found… Am thinking the Imparja name would probably disappear and be known as Nine Central?

Hasn’t Imparja operated at a loss pretty much since its opening? I don’t think there would be a lot of buyers around.

Perhaps WIN might take a stab at it and switch to Ten and CDT takes on Nine.

If a big if no owner can be found for imparja will SCA convert seven central to becoming more like WIN SA or WIN Griffith or seven broken hill to accept 7, 9, and 10 network channels as in a solo market? Or must a new owner be found for imparja?

CAAMA going under would be a big loss for the community radio sector - they’re one of the biggest Aboriginal-owned networks in the Territory.

If CAAMA no longer owns shares in Imparja then there’s no reason why Imparja would be under threat because of this news.

Yes unrelated. The only common ground both are indigenous owned and based in Alice Springs.
