Plus there would have been some interest as Melbourne was the first market to have 4 stations.

More research has been done about the TV Coverage of the 2000 Olympics and during the evening of the Opening Ceremony and apparently, a Mainland Television audience (Minus Australian Capital Territory) of 6,518,000 went to a standstill at 6:30 PM AEDT on Seven. During the evening of the closing ceremony (October 1), 6,641,000 Mainland TV viewers were watching Seven at 7:00 PM AEDT.

I wonder what programs on Nine and 10 had the most respective viewers during the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

One of the programs Nine had scheduled during the Opening Ceremony (AEDT) was the Paul Hogan Movie in _Almost an Angel_ at 9:30 PM Local time at the same exact time 10 had the second of the two movies _Naked Gun_ scheduled local time (Following _Matilda_ at 7:30 PM). You’d like to think all three movies would’ve rated a bit better than _Best of Burkes Backyard_ (7:30 PM) and _Farscape_ (8:30 PM) on Nine.

Can Somebody Upload The Top 10 Rating Regular Programs Between 1990 & 2003 For Every Specific Year Please?

For the week 8-14 October 1978 in Sydney, TCN9 reclaimed the lead from ATN7 in prime-time.

TCN9: 34  
ATN7: 29.5  
TEN10: 25.3  
ABN2: 11.2

Among the top titles were a repeat of _The Sound Of Music_ on Nine (39) and Seven’s new mini-series _Against The Wind_ (41), though both beaten by _Are You Being Served?_ (42) 😬

_The Sammy Awards_ (ATN7) rated 25, and _The Restless Years_ (TEN10) rated 26.

I dunno if this is historic enough, but didn’t want to further derail the Ten News regional thread, but there’s pretty interesting archival local news ratings in some ACMA documents:

Some interesting notes,  
WIN’s local Mackay bulletin had \<4,000 average viewers a night before it got axed, compared to 18k on Seven, and WIN were already losing to Seven in Toowoomba after only 2 years on air.

WIN in 2003 were not too far behind in Launceston against SC, 31k vs 41k, but by 2016 were rating 6k vs a steady 41k. 2013 was the last time that WIN were ahead in Hobart.

WIN’s WA Local News wasn’t doing quite as bad when it got axed, 13k viewers compared to 49k on GWN,

Thanks so much for sharing. Very interesting read.

Very interesting that in Shepparton (my home town), Nine News and WIN News (which was at 6.30) were #1 in 2012 over Seven News Melbourne (and presumably Today Tonight). I would assume that would be thanks to WIN News at 6.30.

Pretty sure around 2014, when Seven and Nine went to a one hour news and WIN News moved to 7.00, Prime7 really started pulling ahead at 6.00 in both Shepparton and regional Victoria in general. WIN News suffered in several markets at 7.00 being up against Home and Away and ABC News (I know for sure this was the case in both Albury and Canberra). This only grew after the 2016 affiliation swap, and continues to this day I believe.

I’m pretty sure WIN was the number one network until 2012 or 13 in Shepparton. This surprises me, as Nine’s schedule struggled against Seven between 2007-11, and it wasn’t until 2012 that they started bouncing back with The Voice and The Block, plus the fact Seven has AFL (granted only on Friday night and Sunday afternoons until 2012). Presumably WIN would’ve won because of the fact they were in front by quite a healthy margin between 6.00-7.00, like how Seven are in front in regional Queensland and several markets in regional NSW despite Nine having the NRL. Seven getting the rights to Saturday Night AFL would’ve gotten Prime7 over the line.

I grew up in a Prime7 household. Was rare for our family to watch anything on WIN/Nine, probably except for the cricket, Top Gear, The Big Bang Theory and Today after around 2011. Whenever the TV was on it was almost always on 7. We didn’t really watch 10 either except for the first half of the 5.00 News, before switching to Seven for Deal Or No Deal, Seven News, Today Tonight and Home and Away. Wasn’t until Seven’s decline in 2017-19 that we started watching Nine and Ten a lot more. Nowadays my parents have said they don’t watch anything on Seven except for the cricket, AFL and The Front Bar.
