Here in Perth, the Front Bar was abruptly cut without warning for _The Latest_ was on 20 mins into the show about the Queen’s health. Little did I knew I was about to witness history ---

I remember hearing the news and seeing the coverage, and I thought at first that it was just another one of those updates on her health. However, I then saw the stuff happening in the Parliament, and the pictures of the family rushing to Balmoral, and then realised that something was happening. I watched the BBC for a bit, then I drifted off to sleep. When I woke up the news day, I opened the ABC blog from the previous night, to then see that she had passed away. I spent the whole weekend watching the rolling coverage. ---

Yesterday (November 25) marked 10 years since Phillip Hughes was hit by a bouncer while batting in a Sheffield Shield match at the SCG. He passed away in hospital two days later. This was Fox Sports News’ report at the time. I still remember this. It was the first year I had seen a sheffield shield match with a watchable stream. I watched it up untill it happened and it was the worst thing I’ve seen. RIP Phillip Hughes. ---

20 years ago today, on Boxing Day 2004, a 9.1 magnitude earthquake struck deep underground off the west coast of Indonesia, triggering a series of tsunamis which caused widespread devastation across South East Asia and the Indian Subcontinent. I haven’t the opportunity to take screen caps or anything, but FYI Nine’s special tonight on 50 years since Cyclone Tracy features opening titles from what was then _News Centre Nine_ and a bulletin read by Ian Ross, with reports filed by Greg Grainger who was deployed to Darwin. ---
