Great songs heard on radio

I try to not sound too much like a fanboi on here but I’ve got to mention some of the stuff Rebel FM played today - there was a selection of classic Aussie tracks being thrown in as a precursor to Australia Day, but not your Triple M-type Aussie stuff. The whole playlist can be found at this link but I’ll highlight some of the belters I caught driving around earlier today:

The Radiators - Comin’ Home
Sunnyboys - Happy Man
Jebediah - Military Strongmen
Something for Kate - Captain (A Million Miles an Hour)
The Saints - Stranded
Cosmic Psychos - Nice Day to Go to the Pub
Goanna - Razor’s Edge

And I see they threw in some Dune Rats and Smith Street Band, as well as a doubleshot of Nick Cave

Let’s Go Crazy - Prince.

Right now on WSFM.

Great song of his that deserves more airplay, and much better than hearing “1999” for the zillionth time.

Yeah it doesn’t matter how many times I hear that one. Love it.

Huge in New Zealand.

Got thrashed on ‘Top banana - Radio Avon’.

Interesting fact about the above song: it reached #3 in NZ, whilst it only reached #16 in the UK & #21 in Australia.

Jona Lewie’s biggest hit in the UK was “Stop The Cavalry”, where it reached #3, as well as in NZ & also #2 in Australia. His 3rd hit, “Louise (We Get It Right)”, reached #2 in Australia, whilst it reached #24 in NZ, and didn’t even chart in the UK.

Never 'eard of it…

Hot Tomato (I think) played Purple Rain the other day, and credit to them they didn’t cut it short like other stations sometimes do

Radio Avon played this heaps… as did 3ZM… but most tellingly was 3ZB where Pat Courtney did his own ‘Christchurch’ version…

This was the second track on the New Zealand ‘Now that’s what I call music’ style album for that year…

Falling In And Out - Mi-Sex

Just heard on iHeart Radio The 80s on Digital.

Great song that I don’t think I’ve ever heard before!

Interesting. I remember Louise (We Get it Right) was huge at the time.

Great Mi Sex song. FM104 used to play it even though it wasn’t a huge hit
