I agree about it being one of the best 80s’ songs, also that Goanna song and the album in general is so underrated and dare I say better than Solid Rock?
A few more good ones this afternoon on 2CA via DAB passing through Canberra
Do It Again - Steely Dan
You’re A Friend Of Mine - Clarence Clemons & Jackson Browne
Street Cafe - Icehouse
Some good ones on smoothfm this evening, from 8:00pm:
- “Easy Lover” by the two Phils
- “Pure Shores” by All Saints
- “When Doves Cry” by Prince
All awesome songs.
I love all three of those songs, and All Saints are so unique. Am I the only one who hears a bit of trip hop influence in their sound? It’s trippy, and they’re the main GIRL band I genuinely enjoy besides R&B girl groups like TLC, En Vouge, SWV, The Pointer Sisters etc, etc.
“Pure Shores” was one of my favourite songs growing up (side note: I also heard it on STAR 104.5 just a few minutes earlier, then when I switched to smoothfm I caught the early bit of “Easy Lover”); the year 2000 was huge for music with NSYNC, Bon Jovi and Anastacia dropping (IMO) their biggest hits: “Bye Bye Bye”, “It’s My Life” and “I’m Outta Love” respectively.
The latter ended up being the most successful song in Australia and New Zealand for the year.
Its a good song too, “Black Coffee” is my favourite of theirs, another song list to radio too, haven’t heard it played for a long time.
Plus the cover of Under The Bridge
I really liked All Saint’s first two albums, they were undeniably a part of that girl group genre, but they were also really unique, and fitting to my taste.
Couldn’t agree more. Razor’s Edge is one of my favourite Aus songs of all time.
That is a good take and I agree, Goanna are so underrated. I like them just as much as Midnight Oil, Hard-Ons, Hoodoo Gurus, The Birthday Party etc, etc.
Today
Big Love - Fleetwood Mac
(107.3 XLFM Jindabyne)
Come Together - The Beatles
(97.3 3HCR Oscar FM Omeo on the Alpine Way West of Thredbo)
Show No Mercy - Mark Williams
(on 98.9 3RUM Corryong, they looked to on a local program at the time instead of taking 2TVR Tumut)
Together in Electric Dreams, Giorgio Moroder and Philip Oakey on Hits 93.9
Great movie soundtrack.
Already been mentioned on the “Did they really just play that?” Thread but via JR the sports guy’s final day on air on Tanya and Steve’s breakfast show on Triple M Newcastle 102.9, he played his favourite song “Lucky Man” by The Verve which is one of the lesser songs that’s been played by the band. Sure beats hearing “Bittersweet Symphony” for the umpteenth time in a row (no offence to the song though).
I have a lot of the Verve albums saved on Spotify I won’t lie, an underrated band but at the same time really popular.
That Steely Dan song was one of my mum’s favourite tunes. It was played at her funeral back in 2021. Whenever I hear it, I think of her.
That’s nice. My mums favourite was Rod Stewart’s “You’re In My Heart”, I had the same idea about playing it at her funeral too, but my sister was against it because of the line “the attraction was purely physical”. My mum wasn’t that type at all!
But after reading the Steely Dan lyrics, it doesn’t seem so bad now!
Didn’t know they could be received there but it makes sense; you can hear Thredbo 92.1 and 92.9 quite well from the Kosciuszko Lookout just west of Omeo (I’m sure you’ll visit it).
You can also hear Gippsland/Mount Tassie well just past Thredbo, before you drop down towards Geehi/Tom Groggin.
Yes, had 90.1 Triple M with RDS there too.. Didn’t check for Gippsland there but did hear 96.7 JJJ briefly a couple of times between Cooma and Jindabyne.
Whatever Happened To Saturday Night - Meatloaf from Rocky Horror - Sunshine FM. I suppose a song for Halloween but not heard a lot.
Someone at Sunshine seems to like movie and TV soundtracks, playing a lot of rarely heard music - yesterday was The Morning After from The Poseidon Adventure.
