Great songs heard on radio

Both released in 2008. The former was particularly a good song and got plenty of radio airplay that year.

Also loved the All-American Rejects in their heyday as well.

Pete Brandtman off to a flying start on 2UUU:

Swoop- Apple Eyes
ABBA- Summer Night City

Yes I like that ABBA song, rarely played on radio. And I don’t care what anyone says, ‘Apple Eyes’ is perfect for brekky (maybe not on Breeze).

What would anyone say? I love all ABBA songs and that’s a great one.

Some great ones on 2NUR FM whilst in the car today - these three all played back to back to back.

Life Goes On - Leann Rimes

Take It Back - Pookah Makes Three
(the biggest WOW song I’ve heard for a few years , hard to find anywhere, I’ve not heard on the radio since 1984, even only a minor hit then)

Cheeseburger In Paradise- Jimmy Buffett (hearing that on the stroke of lunchtime made me hungry, an apt artist name for the song too)

Later

Angelia - Richard Marx

Definitely a great hit and a nice follow up to the commercially successful “Can’t Fight the Moonlight”.

A couple more good ones on the way home - this time on 96.3 Coast FM Gosford

Cherry Cherry - Neil Diamond

Sunshine On A Rainy Day - Christine Anu

I never understand why songs like the Christine Anu one don’t get played on Smooth and Gold. Songs like that are well known and were played a lot back in the day.

This could also belong to the “Songs lost to radio” thread. The follow up to “Lovesong” which of course was a commercial success in 2003.

The FOXTEL music channels also play some great unflogged songs too.

Rock And Roll Music – Mental As Anything
Heartache All Over The World – Elton John
Right Next Door – Robert Cray Band
Just A Gigolo – David Lee Roth
You Came – Kim Wilde
Happy Birthday – Stevie Wonder

The video clip of that song starred the late great Rik Mayall.

Cherry Poppin’ Daddies- Zoot Suit Riot
Collective Soul- Run
Tina Turner- I Don’t Wanna Fight

KMHS ‘Pop 91.3’ Coos Bay/North Bend this afternoon. First time I’ve listened in about 15 years- they seem to have flipped to a 90s/00 retro station. Plenty of Conga Line worthy stuff. That will please the teachers, less so the students.

(KMHS is a high school station; I tried to get one going at my own high school but it aint as easy as over there).

Zoot Suit Riot. I had forgotten about that song and I’ve just remembered that it was once featured as a Power Play on the previous incarnation of The Mechie Show.

Only reached #57 in Aus in 1998 according to Top100 Singles but was played on Video Hits which is where I remember it from. May have also been played on 9inety6ix.1 given the year.

It was released in 1997 however and that’s what my memory tells me; I distinctly remember a classmate in my Year 5 class singing it.

Couple more from KMHS Coos Bay:

Sneaker Pimps- 6 Underground
Jude Cole- Baby It’s Tonight

The latter song in particular is a Conga Line special.

Never heard that one… it’s been ages since I’ve heard “Start The Car” even.

Start the Car. That song used to get one hell of an airing on One FM in late 1992.

Went for a Sunday drive up to Maitland just then.

Had 2CHR 96.5 Cessnock on for a bit on the way back… they played a few good tunes

Doin The Doo - Betty Boo
(a bit controversial I know! But hearing that one again brought a smile to my face, it’s been a while).

They also did a Mel & Kim triple play… two songs that I think belong here
Showin Out (Get Fresh At The Weekend)
F.L.M
(Respectable was the 3rd one)

And I didn’t get around to posting a few from yesterday, so here goes

Always And Ever - Southern Sons
(on Port Stephens FM 100.9 Nelson Bay)

My Best Friend’s Girl - The Cars
(on 101.1 2LT Katoomba)

Come To Me - Diesel
(on C91.3 Campbelltown)

Baby Wants To Rock - Mondo Rock
(on 100.3 2MCR Campbelltown)

Tonight

This Is Who I Am - Vanessa Amorisi
(On Move FM 107.9, was later in the evening, so not part of the SCA feed).
One of my favourite songs from the 00s, has an 80s vibe to my ears

Love And Devotion - Michael Bow
(on SWR 99.9, a song that transports me back to 1987 every time).
