It’s being worked on for sure.. looked a bit less broken yesterday when they first dropped the red.
I also hate that harsh blue on the black that seems to be part of the Gold style template/never changed from default when they built it lol.
I couldn’t help but laugh today when I read on the Gold96 website that “you voted, we counted” for the Summer 500 countdown. Did everyone in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth really vote for the exact same songs? Did the music director really read through every vote that was submitted? All stations have the same songs for the countdown. Also not really any surprises in the countdown, it’s almost like the regular playlist just numbered. I like what River 94.9 are currently doing with the A to Z of their music library, maybe Gold should do something like that for something different.
Hey Braddo! I’m assuming the countdown is a vote accumulation from all listeners from MEL/SYD/PER. Hence, the same countdown across stations. The Summer 500 has varied since it started, wildly in different positions, but some songs will naturally land in these countdowns when they are embedded in the playlist of the stations. This countdown often throws in songs not in rotation and they genuinely get increased rotation afterwards. I personally would love an 80’s 500, 90’s 500, and Aussie 500 Countdowns spaced out over the year as well.
96 have regularly done “the A-Z of xxx” for the last 20+ years. There’s no new concepts in radio, so criticising them for not doing something they regularly do is ridiculous.
Were any votes actually received? Could literally be the usual playlist with numbers, considering the pattern of music that doesn’t allow certain categories of songs to sit next to each other. Seems odd that a countdown would allow say no more than 3 female artists back to back…
I’m not a total sceptic. I’m sure that votes were received - alhough, I’m sure that it would ruin the magic if I was to find out how these countdowns were actually calculated.
Yep. It’s weird ARN haven’t put them on DAB in Brisbane. Probably afraid they’d take a lot of listeners from 97.3 since they KIISified it. (There are other adjectives but they’re not polite )
I still think there’s a chance they will launch Gold on 94.9 as well as DAB at some point. A countdown is sometimes a precursor to a format tweak. I just can’t help thinking ARN would want to leverage the overspill and the existing audience in SEQ to boost Gold and COC. As it stands Brisbane is the only market where Gold is DAB only.
