Because some of the things they say (how do I put this delicately…) aren’t very intelligent.
Holly has long said some questionable things, but recently they’ve just been ridiculous for someone who’d now be in her Early 20s. I mean, how can you confuse Tina Arena for Tina Turner or think that Egypt is in Europe?!
But isn’t that half the fun of the show? Many of them can make comments that makes you think they’re as thick as two short planks.
Sometimes it’s a lack of education but sometimes it’s just a case of not knowing everything about everything. But that’s the real world too. So the show is reflecting that.
This week’s episode was probably one of the better ones for a while.
Who would’ve guessed that Mick & Di would hate “Hey Hey It’s 50 Years” while The Silbery’s loved it? Surely most would’ve expected the other way round! At least the households briefly touched on some of the darker side of HHIS history that was omitted from Sunday night’s special, but of course it would’ve been even better if the review made all who saw it think “How on earth did we find this program (HHIS, of course) to be acceptable entertainment on television back in the day?”!
Another great bit was the review of that special Block edition of The Weakest Link…which only proved why I didn’t watch the show when the normal version was airing earlier this year. Magda Szubanski: You’re better than this!
Speaking of reviews which remind me why I don’t watch certain programs: The Real Housewives of Melbourne. Can someone explain to me the appeal in a “franchise” which seems to be based around a bunch of rich, overprivileged women getting into arguments about the most insignificant nonsense?!
Watching them all tear each other apart over everything is part of the entertainment. It might be car crash entertainment but it is still entertainment.
A fairly boring episode this week, Real Housewives and The Block again?!
Since there’s now only about two or three episodes left (during which time I’m sure the households will get to watch both programs on at least one more occasion), you’d think it’d make sense to hold off future reviews of RHOM and The Block for at least a week or two!
I thought the celebrity version would air straight after the normal season finishes in late April or early May, so it can cover mid-year shows like MasterChef, State of Origin and the return of TV Week Logie Awards.
I don’t see any problem with this. The UK manages to run two 15 episode seasons per year and has celebrity versions that have had episodes run consecutively and concurrently.
I don’t hate the concept but I don’t think doubling down on the format is the best idea when the show in its existing airing pattern is not firing like before (granted, the lead-ins have been pretty crap lately but still). I fear a celebrity edition may drive viewer fatigue.
I also don’t buy the UK argument because the Australian audience is quite different to the UK audience. Just because something works there doesn’t mean it will work here.
