One important factor to consider is the gap until then. Is the story small enough that it can ride out that gap?
Nine has answered no to that question.
If it seems a bit unfamiliar, it’s okay. Probably the first time it has been used in Australian television. (America has had a couple of those for awhile.)
Yes it is. If you’re a 9 viewer, seeing a few words on the screen doesn’t give you the story, you’re not going to get that til the next news. If that’s the late news in an hour fine, if that’s the early news at 5am it’ll be there when you wakeup.
There crawler was accompanied by a news update - both of which were essentially promos for the Late News.
The crawler was across a segment that included phone camera amatuer footage that, if you weren’t paying attention to the program, might have looked like coverage from the event.
ABC is obviously deep in nachtprogram, and Sky UK (which at this time of night = Sky AU) is currently juggling about 5 or 6 other breaking British stories so they probably won’t get to this for an hour or so.
Sunrise was the first breakfast program with the royal news this morning at 6:06am. They probably also had the most reports and crosses to London and experts.
A roundup of the Korean broadcasters’ OB huts for the APEC meeting in Gyeongju last week. (The other) SBS seems to be closest to the venue, JTBC the furthest:
The big 4 have started coverage at 7. NBC at least still promoting other stories in their intro, so probably not going to be rolling, which I suppose is to be expected as he was only VICE president.
Just gone back to check the start of the ABC 11PM bulletin, no mention on ticker nor screen, so story broke too late.
