Friday saw another huge night of sport including Paris Olympics, NRL and AFL. Nine achieved its seventh straight +50% national share for another 30 point margin over Seven that had its best share over the last seven days. ABC was below 12% with 10 and SBS again in single figures.

The Night session of the Olympics topped the overnights averaging 1.58 million while 1.06 million were watching Night Session 2. Both averages were the lowest for the games so far. However, 9Go’s coverage of both segments saw 380k and 264k respectively tune in. The Early morning coverage was just below Thursday’s number that was the highest of the games.

Nine’s main channel in Sydney and Brisbane carried NRL that, while lower than the season average, topped the 500k mark. That was ahead of AFL that was well down on it usual result with 471k, a season low.

Vera, a late addition to ABC’s schedule was the top prime time entertainment entry with just 402k while Better Homes and Gardens slipped to 340k as 10’s line-up missed the top 30 reach rankings.

At 6pm, Nine News concluded its first national weekly win with a 100k margin while Today in Paris was 300k ahead of Sunrise.

The 9Network’s Friday broadcast of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 (up until 2.00am Monday AEST) secured a National Total TV Reach of 9.189 million across Channel 9, 9Gem and 9Now.

Olympic Games Paris 2024 Day 7 Night Session (19:00-21:00) was Australia’s No. 1 program with all key demos and Total People. It registered a National Total TV Reach of 3.839 million, a Total TV National Audience of 1.577 million and a BVOD audience of 196,000. Thie broadcast saw the Rowsellas Women’s Pair of Annabelle McIntyre and Jessica Morrison fight their way in a thrilling race to win Bronze as well as the battle in the pool between Ariarne Titmus and Katie Ledecky in the 800m freestyle.

Olympic Games Paris 2024 Day 7 Night Session 2 (21:00-22:30) dominated it’s timeslot and was Australia’s No. 2 program with key demos People 25-54 and 16-39. The session featured the Boomers take on Greece in the Men’s Basketball and the Stingers defeat Canada in the Women’s Water Polo preliminary’s, securing a National Total TV Reach of 2.856 million, a Total TV National Audience of 1.060 million and a BVOD audience of 172,000.

Olympic Games Paris 2024 Day 7 Late (22:30-24:00) dominated its timeslot across Australia with Total People and all key demos. It achieved a National Total TV Reach of 2.318 million, a Total TV National Audience of 779,000 and a BVOD audience of 140,000. Audiences in this slot witnessed Australian Tennis champs Matt Ebden and John Peers guarantee a medal after defeating USA in the men’s doubles semi-final. The late session also saw Noemie Fox’s Olympic debut as she competed alongside sister Jess in the new Olympic discipline of Kayak Cross

Olympic Games Paris 2024 Day 7 Afternoon (15:00-18:59) dominated its timeslot across Australia with Total People and all key demos. It achieved a National Total TV Reach of 2.979 million, a Total TV National Audience of 649,000 and a BVOD audience of 84,000. The Afternoon session saw the opening day of the Athletics Track and Field at Stade de France, featuring 2020 silver medalist Nicola Olyslagers alongside Eleanor Patterson in the Women’s High Jump.

9News was Australia’s No.1 bulletin of the night with all key demos and Total People . The combined national bulletins achieved a National Total TV Reach of 2.566 million, a Total TV National Audience of 1.299 million and a BVOD audience of 147,000.

The 9Network was the No. 1 network across the 5 City Metro with Total People and all key demos, securing shares of 57.7% with People 25-54, 62.0% with People 16-39 and 48.9% with Total People.

9Now was the No. 1 CFTA BVOD platform across Australia with Total People and all key demos, with massive shares of 84.3% with People 25-54, 86.50% with People 16-39 and 82.2% with Total People.

And impressive Olympics in Perth vs local AFL (or impressive the other way around?)

Olympics dominated AFL and NRL, as Cynic touched on, some big numbers particularly continue for GTV-9.

However, a real window still open for especially HSV-7 at 6pm, with Chase getting on top of live arvo Olympics, which would be a little bit disappointing for Nine, though definitely not the same story in every market. Maybe they’ll do what Seven did from LA 2028 and schedule Tipping Point during the Games, could be a huge success or maybe not, I can’t recall Tokyo 2020 being a runaway but I do recall Rio 2016 (when Chase was only fairly new) going huge.

Meanwhile in Nine’s heritage and arguably still most important market of Sydney, shares are continuing to be astronomical!

@TV.Cynic question: the “Night” coding for the Sydney split, is that main channel (to 7:58pm) or Go! (7:58pm - ~8:30pm)? Because nationally, there was also a “Night” coding for Go! in the rankings. I’m guessing the former, given the size of the figure.

I think Channel 7 would be quite pleased with the resurgence of the Chase Australia during the Olympics with no Tipping Point on. During the past week the Chase Australia got 4 days rating above 700k and one around 650k. Improved ratings.

Channel 9 gave the Chase Australia a free kick. Let’s see how it all plays out once the Olympics are over and Tipping Point returns to see if the ratings are close again or if Tipping Point surges ahead or if Chase Australia starts winning the ratings battle again.

Actually, I’m pretty sure @TV.Cynic had been providing those “all day” (2am-2am) shares, which you should be able to work out how 12am-6pm is rating vs rivals, as it’d be larger or not than the “prime time” (6pm-midnight).
