Fox Sports

A few things about the FSN announcements:

  • The scheduling for Bill & Boz is odd. From the show’s description, it seems like it would work better being a once or twice a week program leading out of and/or into the sporting weekend instead of airing Sunday - Wednesday.
  • As Rutzie mentioned previously, ‘Tomorrow’s News Tonight’ is a bad name for a show. It’s especially bad when it’s airing at 6pm when plenty of sports news (eg; tribunal/judiciary hearings) still hasn’t unfolded yet.
  • Watched a bit of Fox Fix this morning and it’s surprising that the format the program is using hasn’t been adopted for a morning news program. Essentially within each 1/2 hour, there’s two 15 minute blocks hosted by different presenters who cover the main sports stories. Aside from being presented from different areas of the FSN, the blocks pretty much feature the same sports/stories which makes the program great for those who want to know what’s happened in just 15 minutes.

According to The Sunday Telegraph, Brenton Speed will have a bigger role on Fox Sports this year. Apart from the A-League, he will also commentate some NRL matches on Fox League and AFL matches on Fox Footy. His versatility was shown last year when he called various sports including rowing during Seven’s coverage of the Rio Olympics and Paralympics.

I wonder if he will still freelance for seven on occasional soccer games and Olympics. Perhaps this new deal with fox is exclusive.

Fox Sports 2 will be replaced by Fox League on February 27. So if there are live sports on all six channels at the same time, any overflow will have to go to Fox Sports News or the dreaded red button function (which could mean no HD for parts of the telecast). This happens 2-3 times during the year, for example:
Fox Sports 1: live Super Rugby
Fox League: live NRL
Fox Sports 3: live soccer
Fox Sports 4: live tennis
Fox Sports 5: live F1 qualifying
Fox Footy: live AFL
Fox Sports News or red button: live cricket from England

FOX SPORTS LAUNCHES FIRST INTERNATIONAL STREAMING PRODUCT WITH ‘WATCH AFL’

FOX SPORTS PARTNERS WITH THE AFL TO LAUNCH NEW GLOBAL STREAMING SERVICE

FOX SPORTS Australia today announces the launch of the new Watch AFL™ service - its first direct to consumer international streaming product.

Marking FOX SPORTS’ first foray into international distribution, the partnership will also provide a blueprint to explore similar opportunities with rights holders across the company’s full suite of sports.

Watch AFL™ is a ground-breaking streaming service built on a high-tech new platform optimising the fan experience.

Featuring every AFL game live plus all of FOX SPORTS’ favourite AFL entertainment shows, FOX SPORTS and News Corp will deliver the joy of the game to fans around the world, boosting the reach and taking AFL to a whole new audience.

Australians living and travelling abroad, as well as the growing number of international AFL fans, will be able to watch every game throughout the season plus every Finals match live and on demand. FOX SPORTS’ week long line-up of AFL programs, powered by the most experienced commentary team in the business, will also be available on the innovative new product.

In addition, FOX SPORTS will continue to push into new markets after being appointed the AFL’s sales agent for the international AFL broadcast rights from 2018.

FOX SPORTS CEO Patrick Delany said: “FOX SPORTS is Australia’s sports leader, delivering the best sport in the world across multiple products. The new Watch AFL service will share our love of AFL with fans around the world.

“Australians travelling or living overseas won’t miss a minute of their team live in action, plus new fans will be able to learn more about the players and the game with all of FOX SPORTS’ award-winning programs delivering the best insight and analysis.

“The new partnership will help grow the game globally, taking AFL to more markets, across more platforms and reaching more fans than ever before.”

Watch AFL™ by FOX SPORTS, is now available and fans can try the new product for free from now up until 23 March 2017.

For more information visit watchafl.afl.com.au.

I hope the cost for this enhanced product will be reasonable so more international fans subscribe to it and get to enjoy the matches like the rest of us here.

I wonder if this means Fox Sports’ international affiliates will show the AFL in 2018, e.g Fox Sports Asia taking over from ABC’s Australia Plus in Asia-Pacific region or Sky Sports regaining the rights from BT Sport in UK and Ireland.

hey im new here so be nice ahaha

but any way im not sure if anyone else noticed but the the fox sports plus channel (507) has disappeared and i have just found out why

this is a post from foxtels Facebook page

We are currently in the process of making a change to how our customers access viewers choice – which is why channel 507 has stopped broadcasting as of the 9th of February. Rest assured, the channel will return in its new form on Thursday 23rd of February.

Launching on Thursday 23 February, FOX SPORTS More will improve the viewing experience for customers by providing a new platform for the content they want from Viewers’ Choice – the channel will be accessible by pressing the red button on the remote.

Sometimes we have so much live sport on offer that we have to move it to the Red Button and our customers do not get the world-class viewing experience they deserve. FOX SPORTS More will now be the new home for this content. By moving this content to its own dedicated channel, customers now have access to a range of features including HD, search and record so they can watch all the games they want!

FOX SPORTS More will also feature exclusive pop-up channel programming stunts throughout the year as an added bonus to our customers!

Content that used to sit behind Viewers’ Choice such as additional cameos ra angles and live timing for motorsport will now become available via the FOX SPORTS app.

_also asked them wether this will work on iq2 and they said it would.

___anybody herd anything about this? or is this just news to everyone? _

thank you

Noticed yesterday that 507 had disappeared but figured it had probably been weeks ago since I haven’t watched the sports channels for a while.

it happened around the same time the fox sports news active stoped working so say the 8th of feb

Have thought that with Fox League replacing Fox Sports 2 that a new service would be launched in some form to avoid the Red Button being used on a far more frequent basis. The launch of Fox Sports More will solve that problem + help promote the mobile/Fox Sports Now apps by moving all of the Motorsport in-car feeds/viewing options to those platforms

Picked a good time to do this with February probably being the quietest month for overlapping sports, particularly without any live Premier League to show.

With Jessica Yates hosting NRL coverage on Fox League channel on Sundays, who will replace her as host of Supercars telecast?

Was thinking that, she might still appear there, could be Greg Rust, no idea to be honest

Fox Sports More launches today with the first cricket test between India and Australia from Pune. The channel will show all four tests over the next month. It’s a good idea to keep the matches on a single channel instead of shuffling each day’s play between channels to accommodate other live sports like Super Rugby and A-League.

“Test Pattern”

Great Idea for Channel 507 to Become a Pop-Up for Excess Live Sport including Australia’s tour of India.

The only main drawback with Fox Sports More launching is that with Viewers Choice being shut down, along with Fox League replacing FS2, it means that Fox Sports lose bandwidth to put extra overflow events through a traditional platform. It isn’t uncommon for say, a surfing event, an ATP Tour event and a golfing tournament to all happen at once, so this means there will be more need to go to the Fox Sports app (which has no iPad app still) to watch these events.

Will this mean that they may be forced to give up some rights to ESPN or (more likely) BeIN Sports to lighten the load?
