Bathurst 1000 programming

FOX SPORTS will gear up to a historic moment in Australian television this week, with the dedicated 24/7 Bathurst channel providing the perfect warm-up to the Bathurst 1000 on Sunday, broadcast for the first time LIVE in 4K and ad break free during racing.

The 4K action will start on Sunday, October 7 with a replay of the Top Ten Shootout, followed immediately with the 161-lap Bathurst 1000, LIVE and in 4K on FOXTEL’s new channel 444.

Foxtel subscribers will receive start to finish coverage of the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, including the Top Ten Shootout as well as every practice and qualifying session plus Sunday’s main race, LIVE in HD and uninterrupted during racing on FOX SPORTS 506.

Before history is made on Sunday at Mount Panorama, the pop-up Bathurst channel will feature new entertainment programs, classic Bathurst 1000 races throughout the week and special tributes to Supercars legend Craig Lowndes, in his last Bathurst as full-time driver.

Tonight (Monday, October 1), a special episode of Bathurst Legends will air at 7.30pm EST, devoted entirely to the career of Lowndes at Bathurst, with all of the highs and lows that the mountain has thrown at the people’s champion, from his emphatic debut in 1994 to his all of his six victories.

Tuesday, October 2 will be a day of celebration for Lowndes fans, when back to back highlights of his Supercars-era triumphs are aired all day long, with his sixth victory in 2015 leading into the premiere of the latest edition of the Bathurst Legends documentary series.

Recapping one of the most dramatic days in the 58-year history of The Great Race, Bathurst Legends 2014: The Greatest Race, will give viewers an incredible fresh insight into a very memorable day on the mountain from 7.30pm EST, Tuesday.

On Wednesday, October 3 the focus turns to the 2018 challengers, with Jess Yates, Mark Skaife and Russell Ingall combining for Supercars Trackside, when they preview the big weekend ahead LIVE from pitlane at Mt Panorama from 4.30pm EST, followed by a late showing at 7.30pm EST.

Drivers’ helmets will go on for the first time on Thursday, October 4 with Neil Crompton and Mark Skaife behind the microphone for every Supercars session, with Jess Yates and Russell Ingall covering off all the big talking points from the panel.

Pit Lane LIVE returns on Friday, October 5 with viewers getting an insight the lead up to the race with a behind the scenes look at the preparation of drivers and teams, plus some fun and games along the way. The show will also feature the Grand Final of the Pirtek Pit Stop Challenge, where the four fastest crews of the 2018 season compete for $20,000 and the Golden Rattle Gun Trophy.

FOX SPORTS’ Supercars Race Centre will be the ultimate companion to the TV broadcast. Available via foxsports.com.au, the Race Centre will offer fans unrivalled access to team radios, live timing and racing stats, car telemetry from all 26 Supercars and an up to the minute blog of key events during each race.

Australia’s number one multi-sport website, foxsports.com.au will also be the destination to follow the action online with the latest news, highlights, and race information.

Foxtel’s new, dedicated, 4K live channel will launch on October 3 on channel 444 and comes as part of a Foxtel Platinum HD or Foxtel Sports HD subscription for customers with an iQ4.

From launch, Foxtel 4K will showcase a host of 4K content including movies, documentaries, concerts and live sport, starting with select events from Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000. Over the next 12 months, Foxtel will continue to expand the selection of unique 4K content for subscribers, including the Australian 4K debut of live Cricket, which kicks off with the November 4, Australia v. South Africa, as part of the Gillette ODI Series.

The arrival of Foxtel’s 4K channel offers an unprecedented way to enjoy live sport, documentaries, movies and more, delivered through the iQ4, Foxtel’s most advanced streaming set top box via Australia’s only guaranteed 4K satellite signal.

After messaging Fox Sports, they have confirmed they won’t be airing the NHL this season.

NHL.TV being pushed really hard on Facebook ads currently.

Sky Sport also haven’t got rights in NZ, perhaps some new strategy in Asia/Oceania?

Hopefully ESPN pick it up but again another reason Fox Sports is very average

It’s becoming clear that Fox Sports needs to launch a new ‘general’ channel. Between what happened today and the India v West Indies test mostly being only available online - it’s evident that four general FS channels isn’t enough to handle the various rights they have

i’m suprised they are not using main event (although that would not help this weekend with WWE and UFC on)

The problem is using that and FSN are merely quick-fix solutions to what will be a long-term problem for them

I still believe they should emulate how Sky UK run things, but mix it up a bit like:

FOX Sports Premier - run big ticket items that don’t have their own channel, like motorsport etc
FOX Sports Mix - a mixture of live and repeat events.
FOX Sports Plus - more of an overseas, smaller sports events (hockey, darts etc)
FOX Sports Arena - for soccer etc
FOX Sports More - repeats plus overflow events
FOX Sports Cricket
FOX Sports League
FOX Sports AFL
FOX Sports News

Fox Sports needs 2-3 extra pop-up channels to cater for overflow events on weekends during the year. If Optus Sport can have ten channels to cover Premier League and Champions League, then Foxtel with a bigger spectrum should easily have space for more channels.

Even Sky NZ have (I think) 4 pop-up sports channels to deal with overflow/special events

No, use the two channels they have showing repeat content

don’t forget FOX Sports Motorsport!

As far as soccer goes on Fox Sports they only have the A-League, the Socceroos, the Matildas and little else. And once these rights expire, expect Optus Sport to pounce and get the rights to them!

Just out of curiosity, how many sports channels does sky uk have?

I read somewhere Optus could’ve gotten the A-League last time the rights were up, but passed as they didn’t want to produce it.

Sky Sports Main Event Airs major events as Sky Sports’ flagship channel. When not showing a live event the channel simulcasts Sky Sports News.
Sky Sports Premier League Dedicated exclusively to the Premier League, including live coverage of matches, and other ancillary coverage and documentaries.
Sky Sports Football Dedicated to association football coverage outside of the Premier League.
Sky Sports Cricket Dedicated to cricket coverage, including domestic and international competition.
Sky Sports Golf Dedicated to golf coverage. As with the former Sky Sports 4, the channel was temporarily renamed Sky Sports The Open during the week of The Open Championship.[14]
Sky Sports F1 Dedicated to coverage of Formula One racing as well as Formula 2 and GP3 Series.
Sky Sports Action Dedicated to general sports coverage, including Tennis and Rugby.
Sky Sports Arena Dedicated to general sports coverage, including Darts, Boxing and most WWE programming.
Sky Sports Mix Available to all Sky TV customers. Airs a mix of live sports and supplementary programming from across the network.
Sky Sports News Available to all Sky TV customers. Provides latest news and updates from across all sports.

Maybe they could call it … Speed? Just a thought …

doesn’t Sky uk also still have the red button? Because the only way I can see this working is if Foxtel brought it back

I think they do (definitely with 4k)

On FOXTEL at least red button apps are terrible. You can’t record, pause and rewind with red button content. Putting the channels in the EPG is far superior.

Couldn’t they basically bring it back upgraded it so it can do all that?
