I expected Fox to have their graphics. Maybe 7 will say that they have to take 7’s graphics and feed (like 9 for NRL, SoO) for the GF replay next year if they want to be inside the MCG ![]()
Don’t give 7 any ideas. ![]()
Then again, probs wouldn’t work, unless 7 pulls right back with the 7-centric graphics (e.g. when they show their callers, telstra tracker etc.), whereas I know 9 does a clean feed with no 9-centric promos for Fox League & I guess international feeds of NRL.
It was shown but pretty much ignored by Fox commentary
So anyone bothering to watch Fox’s replay? They’ll be disappointed the ending wasn’t close (at all) nor a Geelong win (for core Melb viewers).
We already sorta established that replays won’t rate, didn’t we?
Even the die-hard footy audience will probably agree that it’s too much.
I don’t think people are going to actually watch. But they already spoiled the result before anyway
Yep. I watched live (with Seven muted and AFL Nation on) while half watching the horse racing. One of the people in my household has to have a sleep in the afternoon so missed a decent chunk of the match, so we tuned in to the replay as it was approaching the point where they left the live broadcast.
The replay was useful for me in catching bits that I missed (such as while the last at Sandown was running) or reviewing incidents/moments that didn’t get an instant replay in the original broadcast.
Yep the Sunday Footy Show has been using the Fox broadcast for highlights. Offsides on ABC is using 7 for their highlights
Commentators were much more neutral than BT was for 7.
Nine had been using Fox Footy vision well before the current agreement, as the arrangement has been consistently rolled over since its initial conditional form. That original deal also enabled Eddie McGuire to return as host of The Thursday Night Footy Show in its final run, in exchange for various forms of in-program promotion for the Fox Footy brand, its coverage, and the broader Foxtel group.
Huddo’s first Grand Final call on TV since 2011 when TEN aired its last ever AFL game. He also called Brisbane’s 2 grand final wins in 2002-03 for Ten. Seven aired it’s last footy match when Brisbane won its first flag since its merger with Fitzroy in 2001
Would’ve been annoyed that he was calling from a studio.
Yet still called it a million times better than BT
I will say that the studio aspect was shown when Fox didn’t know why Dangerfield was in the rooms just 5mins into the game.
7 informed immediately it was for a toilet break.
but that’s minor given most people watching it would already know the outcome or what exactly happened etc
Advantage of having a Boundary rider there.
Overall, I preferred the Fox call to the 7 one, that was the only game I watched on FTA all year and I can’t say I missed BT, JB was considerably better than he was last year. I’m really happy they chose Dwayne for the Fox call too, about time he got to do a Granny for Television.
I never watch 7. It was painful yesterday.
Huddo and Dwayne are Fox’s main callers but also don’t have a lead radio commentary role for GF. This probably also meant they were the only options given Mark Howard (MMM), Matt Hill (AFL Nation) and Gerard Whateley (SEN) were on radio.
Huddo usually calls GF for 3AW
I wish Dwayne and Huddo paired up more during the season.
Only since he left SEN, Tim Lane called the GF for many years on AW, as did Brian Taylor previously. After 2009 when him and Rex Hunt famously switched with Triple M, where BT went back to the late 90s (with Eddie McGuire and former Ten callers Stephen Quartermain and Michael Christian).
Of course Huddo was the main caller for the 2004 and 2007 Grand Finals for Ten, as well as co-calling the 2002, 2003, 2006 and 2011 Grand Finals for them as well.
Kayo have now removed the “Grand Final Day on Fox” pre-game coverage from the platform, apparently due to the rights.
