Federal Politics

The LNP is a party. There is no such thing as the LNP coalition.

Wrong!!! I don’t know how else to explain it. If you need it spelled in full it’s the “Liberal - National Party Coalition”. It is acceptably shortened to LNP coalition, as distinct from the LNP (party) of Queensland, which is fully merged.

The Liberal–National Coalition , commonly known simply as the Coalition or the LNP

The references in that wikipedia article are to Queensland where it is a term that is correctly used, and a Guardian article by Calla Wahlquist, where it is used incorrectly. Journalists get it wrong sometimes.

But no ½ decent political commentator in this country refers to the ‘LNP Coalition’. That is a misnomer. Is it a party or a coalition? It is either or, can’t be both.

It can be one party (LNP) as in Qld, or a coalition between the Liberal and National Parties as it is federally.
Either way, it’s effectively the same thing. They add their votes together at an election.

Fair enough. I don’t wish to labor labour the point.

You’re in luck then, one such reference is actually from the Australian Electoral Commission!

Usage is listed in NSW, Vic and on the national/federal level (NAT) where the parties are not fully merged.

The issue I have with the opposition is they have kept a large chunk of these old hacks from the prior terms. It’s the same old bullshit.

Angus Taylor is the worst. I can’t vote for them while they have half the team they have.

They won’t land any Nuclear Project with these heads at the helm. Don’t get me wrong, Bowen is a clown also, but kicking off a Nuclear regime is beyond any department here.

The alternative PM has launched his bid to become the nation’s premier today, rallying the troops with a call to ‘let’s get Australia back on track’.

Dutton didn’t mention anything about party stability though. Whilst I’m not a huge fan of Albo, one thing they have done well is avoiding all the internal chaos that ensured during the previous few LNP and Labor Government’s. It’s been super quiet on that front. Very few shenanigans.

Dutton’s front bench is full of underperforming and underwhelming heads.

I suppose that’s the benefit of leading a fairly talentless bunch, there aren’t really any contenders for leadership, therefore few internal squabbles. Probably be a different kettle of fish if the Frydenbergs and what not were in the picture or the Birminghams were wanting to hang around.

Does he mean the track his party was on 2013/22 with 3 of the worst PM’s we’ve ever had? Such short memories of how hopeless they were! I’m not a big fan of Albanese but a Labor voter always and ever. Whatever happens in the Election I think Jim Chalmers will be the next Labor leader.

That’s putting it very mildly.

Unfortunately the general public isn’t astute enough to look past the end of their noses or to question the headlines in the media… they just think, I’m hurting now, someone has to be blamed, Albo is PM, let’s punish him and get rid of him.
I’ll say it again, the average family would’ve been $6800 worse off under Dutton over the past 3 years.

You can rest assured that although I flipped to LNP in the Qld election, this won’t be happening at a federal level this year

I’m the same. I voted LNP for the 2nd time in my life in the Queensland election for a number of reasons, including the decision to use QSAC as the Olympic stadium which would be an international embarrassment.

I will not, however vote for the conservatives in the federal space

Let’s get Australia back on track taps into this sentiment of ‘let’s return Australia Day to what it was…’ which I think resonates with a lot of people who were probably happy with Australia Day before it was so politicised.

The thing is I would be ok with LNP (probably wouldn’t vote for them) if it was someone closer to the centre like Malcolm Turnbull or Julie Bishop. Dutton and Ley are just far to the right than the centre than I would like.

I wonder why we let the hoi polloi vote hey? Uggh… the ‘general public’, maybe we should just call them the deplorables and be done with it.

Yes the Olympics was one of the main reasons I flipped to the LNP in Qld too.
